Grade/Band: L £38,679 - £41,911 per annum pro rata

The Inclusion Service works in partnership with all schools and settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation and achievement of children and young people with SEND. These services are allocated into SEND hubs, coordinating provision at a locality level across Children's services as a whole, to ensure needs are met holistically.
The exclusions officer is the lead professional providing advice and challenge to head teachers, school staff, governors and colleagues in relation to the statutory framework for exclusions and in year fair access. If required they also provide advice on the legal process to parents of a child who has been excluded.
The exclusions officer represents the local authority at Governors Discipline Hearings, Independent Review Panels and courts in line with The School Discipline (Pupil Exclusions and reviews) (England) Regulations 2012, and Fair Access Panels to ensure that the local authority is discharging its statutory duties in relation to exclusions and In Year Fair Access.
The role will involve:
- Working with schools determine the nature and underlying causes of any Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Support the development of inclusive practices to build capacity in schools
- Monitor and respond to data trends and provide reports and analysis over time
- Deliver training, support and intervention guidance to the wider SEN Team and to schools
- Work with schools to develop whole school provision and approaches to meeting needs, including restorative approaches and behaviour policies
- Ensuring statutory responsibilities of the LA are fulfilled
- To support our Intensive Support Team in meeting the needs of pupils in receipt of education provided by the Local Authority following exclusion
- To support the professional lead in the development and delivery of strategic developments for children and young people (CYP) with SEMH needs
This role involves a specialist level of spoken communication so a confident use of English language is required.
The Post holder will require an enhanced DBS.
