Job description
Supervise formal examinations of students ensuring they are conducted in an
appropriate manner, within correct time frames and that they meet relevant
regulations. Ensure consistent and safe examination environments to avoid
improper conduct, unfairness, advantage or disadvantage to any students at all
times
Key Responsibilities
and Accountabilities:
Pre-Exam
Arrival at exam venue no less than 30 minutes prior to designated start time
Lead Invigilators to collect exam papers from relevant campus ‘Collection Point’
Ensure exam room is set up correctly and all required materials are present,
including answer booklets and where applicable PCs are switched on
Admittance of students to exam room, oversee orderly seating and checking of
identification
Confidential distribution of exam papers
Deliver relevant exam requirements and regulations, including start and finish times,
in a clear and concise manner
Give formal permission for the exam to commence
During Exam
Ensure exam conditions are adhered to at all times
Monitoring students throughout the exam to ensure no malpractice, including no
talking, student interactions or other disruptions
Providing support where necessary should an emergency arise e.g. sick student,
fire evacuation
Answering any queries that a student may have about the exam
Fifteen minutes before the end of the exam, announce the time remaining
Give formal notification of the exam finishing and ensure all students cease with
immediate effect
Post-Exam
Oversee orderly exit of students, ensuring no exam materials are removed
Collection of all completed exam scripts, attendance slips and all remaining exam
stationary
Return completed exam scripts and attendance slips to the designated ‘Collection
Point’

Time Commitments
• The University has two main exams periods in January (2 weeks)
and May/June (4-6 weeks), but there are various points throughout
an academic year when exams may also take place
- Most exams typically last between 1-3 hours
- You will need to attend up to half an hour before the exam and half
- Exams that have disability support measures in place may have
