We are currently recruiting for a temporary Events Manager to work on site at one of our Headington based departments starting ASAP for appro 12 weeks workong a minimum of 3 days p/e and possibly more, paying £19.02 p/h
Duties:

a) Events Management

Responsible for the day-to-day and longer term management of internal departmental events and activities as well as public engagement and research events as part of the Department of Paediatrics.

The candidate will lead on the planning, delivery and evaluation of the high-quality, year-round public engagement and events programme. They will work with senior academics and officers to develop, influence, and manage individuals and programmes of events (including digital).

The successful applicant will be expected to bring a strong project management ethos to the events in their portfolio, with an ability to plan and manage considerable and complex resources (funding, staff and space) to ensure a high quality series of events are delivered throughout the year. The Events Manager will be expected to manage budgets of up to £10,000 on individual events, and overall of up to £500,000. They will be responsible for managing multiple and conflicting constraints on resources and will be required to provide creative solutions to resource management.

b) Strategic development

This role includes working closely with a range of senior individuals across the University and partner institutions to build a programme that complements and expands the wellbeing of departmental staff members. The candidate will work across this broad range of stakeholders, and informed by their views will formulate and influence the strategic vision for the Events Programme, for consideration by the steering groups of the programme of the Department

The candidate will be expected to develop a framework to enable the development and evaluation of individual events, and programmes of events, to understand intended audiences, and the proposed impact of the events upon them. Detailed delivery plans are expected to be developed for each event, using strong project management techniques, to ensure the risks, costs and timings of each event are fully understood. The evaluation of success will require the analysis of complex and varied data sets leading to the production of actionable plans for future development. The successful candidate will be expected to selfreflectively develop their skills in cultural and academic programming and ensure their knowledge remains up-to-date in a vibrant and fast-moving sector.

c) Communication and Coordination

In addition, the candidate will be expected to communicate clearly with potential audiences, using a range of communication channels (website, mailing list, social media and marketing etc.), both to scope and develop the programme, as well as to disseminate and publicise events.

Person specification
Essential Criteria
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent relevant experience. The successful candidate will have significant specialist experience in project management, including substantial experience of delivering high-level events or internal engagement events.
  • Experience with a systematic approach to developing events and reporting on the outputs, outcomes and impact they produce for researchers. A track record of delivering consistently exceptional events or programmes with high-level speakers, performers, artists, and/or researchers.
  • An understanding of business planning and business models for events, and experience in providing excellent administrative, project and budget management.
  • Ability to communicate project and financial processes when working with researchers and students.
  • Strong collaborative skills and attitude with the ability to rapidly forge new relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, able to synthesise and influence a range of views to develop programmes and events.
  • Experience in supervising and coordinating the work of other team/committee members.
  • Experience of developing audience engagement.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to assimilate large quantities of data and provide creative, workable solutions to complex problems.
  • Very good skills in office IT systems, including Email, and MS Office, website and design related applications; the ability to make effective use of changing office technologies.
