The Media & Events Coordinator is responsible for the media and public outreach strategy for the entire organization. This role coordinates and collaborates with the TBC Marketing Department to increase blood donations through organic media, paid media, and events. This position will create communication strategies and implement plans to maintain strong messaging through advertisements and press releases. This position will also establish and maintain relationships with donors, public interest groups, members of the media, and other stakeholders. The Media & Events Coordinator must also be able to collaborate with other TBC team members across a broad spectrum of positions to execute large scale events and/or blood drives. This position reports to the Strategic Partnerships & Programs Manager.
Essential Functions
- Writes and distributes press releases, event alerts, and other messaging to media enterprise-wide
- Conducts interviews (phone and in-person) with members of the media and responds to requests for interviews (designated spokesperson)
- Implements plans to influence public opinion by promoting blood donation through paid and organic media
- Uses knowledge of paid marketing strategies to effectively create PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet TBC’s goals
- Tracks overall media impact and prepares monthly reports detailing media spend and success of media outreach/marketing campaigns
- Handles relationships with media partners and responds to requests for information
- Leads media trainings for approved TBC representatives
- Plans and executes press conferences with partners during urgent and critical need situations
- Writes and distributes fact sheets, newsletters for blood drive coordinators, and various articles for distribution
- Acts as project manager to develop, produce, and distribute video content about donors and recipients to further express TBC’s need for blood donors
- Plans and executes TBC events, such as donor appreciation events, center openings, and internal meetings
- Coordinates with hospital partners for media releases, events, announcements when needed
- Writes and distributes executive/organizational messages
- Garners support from legislative bodies (local, state, national) for media pleas when necessary
- Establishes and maintains relationships with donors, community members, chambers of commerce, public interest groups, etc.
- Assists with partnership relationships and blood drives when needed
- Other duties as assigned or required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing/Communications or Journalism
- 2+ years of broadcast/print journalism experience preferred
- Experience with media management/scheduling programs preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously to patrons, donors, sponsors, and co-workers
- Knowledge of best media practices
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work independently
- Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
- Strong computer skills including intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work with all levels of management and in a diverse work environment
