The Language Centre is the University’s hub for all students and staff who want to improve their language skills. Our 2,000+ learners each year come from many nationalities and disciplines to take our courses, which run both online and in person, throughout the day and in the evenings.
We are looking for an evening receptionist to provide a professional welcome to our learners, and to act as the first point of call for enquiries from language learners and colleagues – whether in person, by email or by phone. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring smooth access to the building, providing directions for new visitors, and dealing with any post or deliveries. They will liaise with the Facilities Management and Security teams as needed to respond to any issues with the building, and will be responsible at the end of the day for making sure the building is empty and secure before leaving.
The evening receptionist is part of our administrative team, reporting to the Departmental Administrator, and undertakes administrative tasks as part of that team. Candidates should be educated to A Level standard (or have equivalent relevant experience) and work in a professional, proactive and organised fashion. The post requires confident use of the Microsoft Office suite and the successful candidate will also be willing to learn to use the specific IT systems used by the administrative team (eg for timetabling and course bookings).
The post is based at the Language Centre, at 12 Woodstock Road in central Oxford. It is available for weeks 1-8 of the three terms of the University year, Monday to Thursday, 4.15pm-7.15pm (12 hours per week), including bank holidays when they fall in term time. Applications for a 50:50 job-share (six hours, across two evenings per week) will also be considered (please note this clearly in your supporting statement).
How to apply: You will be required to upload a CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should explain how you meet the selection criteria, as listed in the job description. CVs alone will not be considered.
Only applications received on or before 12noon on Monday 9 October 2023 can be considered.
Interviews are expected to take place in the week of Monday 16 October 2023.
