The Senior End User Computing Technical Specialist (SME) will report to the EUC Team leader.
The role provides the day-to-day hands-on delivery and support of Senior End User Computing (EUC) technologies, delivered and supported by IT Services.
The Senior EUC Technical Specialist (SME) has deep and current subject matter expertise and is a hands-on technical expert in the use of Active Directory, group policies, Azure Virtual Desktop, Powershell Scripting, software packaging, SCCM and INTUNE, Deep Freeze, Microsoft Office 365, Windows Server Operating Systems, Windows registry, Zscaler and have the ability to pick up new technologies as they arise.
This role is senior in nature and is responsible and accountable for all IT End User Computing (EUC) Technical activities for the council and Arm’s Length Management Organisations (ALMO) under the guidance of the EUC team leader – ensuring optimal and cost-effective IT tools are provided to promote business productivity.
Responsible for continuous review of complex IT EUC technologies, seeking to improve and increase user satisfaction and deliver an excellent user experience.
Complex management of essential IT EUC hardware and software estate, ensuring compliance, governance, version control, and clarity of purpose and use.

- Be part of the IT Operations Team, providing EUC-specific expertise, driving continual improvement to achieve and exceed both KPI and goals
- In line with business objectives, define, develop, and maintain EUC services and capabilities in conjunction and alignment with the other technology services functions
- Managing relevant projects and BAU support activities.
- Ensure technical/functional requirements are detailed sufficiently at the appropriate stage of the development cycle, provide estimates to Project Managers. Participate in the weekly Project Management Group (PMG)
- Work with TDA / Systems/ M365 leads participating in solutions designs, documenting and presenting these solutions at the weekly Technical Design Authority (TDA) meetings where required
- Proactively manage vendors, working closely with IT Procurement partner in the Council, participate in vendor, product evaluation and selection for technologies.
- Work with the EUC Team Leader to be involved in the approval and acceptance of both Service Definition and bring into service documents.
- Accountable for planning and managing the maintenance and patching of existing services to agreed levels.
- Responsible for ensuring open incidents and requests are addressed according to SLA. • Ensure high quality service delivery to existing customers and users.
- Ensure current service state (e.g. DR capability, resilience and capacity) is understood by the service owners and key stakeholders.
- Ensure documentation is up to date, accessible, easy to use, reduces single point of failures within the team, and make the team more efficient.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver continuous improvement as appropriate.
- Ensure projects are being delivered on time and to quality, with minimal disruption to the service.
- Management, analysis and review of process, and services within IT EUC service area, develop, maintain, and deliver continuous improvement.
- Responsible and accountable for managing the reliability, usability and performance optimisation of systems providing a service that is fit for.
- Develop, review, and maintain the Operational Service Catalogue for your area of responsibility, including delivery of security and patching.
- Ensure compliance of services within IT EUC for information security, SLA, business continuity and DR, Service Asset and Configuration management.
- Actively keep up to date and adopt industry best practice within your service area providing appropriate solutions that meet business needs.
About you
- ITIL Qualified to at least foundation level.
- Experience of managing and provisioning EUC deployments in a large environment with expertise in End User Computing technologies including, but not limited to: Microsoft SCCM, Windows, Active Directory, Group Policies, Azure Virtual Desktop, PowerShell Scripting, software packaging, Intune, Deep Freeze, Microsoft Office 365, Windows Server Operating Systems, Windows registry, Zscaler.
- Experience of provisioning EUC deployments in a large environment.
- Experience of patching and security processes and techniques and best practice in applying patches to live systems and applications.
- Experience of working collaboratively with internal IT teams including, Service Desk, Networks, Systems, and Applications, internal council or similar business partners, 3rd party suppliers, and project managers for the delivery of new projects and services.
- Demonstrable written and oral communications skills to deliver documentation, training of colleagues and work closely with peers and others.
- Demonstrable delivery of projects, problem resolution, root cause troubleshooting of incidents both minor and major, and innovative methods of solving problems.
- Proven ability to develop colleagues, transference of knowledge to mitigate against demand and single point of failure.
- Used to working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- Dealing with critical IT EUC demand being responsible and accountable for the successful delivery of day-to-day IT EUC for end users to SLA and KPI.
- Working outside of business hours as required.
- Responsible for all day to day IT End User Computing (EUC) activities for the council.
