Hybrid Structures specialize in timber and mixed material solutions so there will be a large verity of product knowledge in terms of steel, decking, Glulam, CLT LVL timber cassettes and the impact that these materials have on each other – on the job training will be given on all these products.

What’s the role all about?
As an Estimator you will develop and work on tenders for the securing of new work for the hybrid structures business, to ensure that the working practices within the department are fit for purpose and meet the needs of the business.
As our Estimator with Hybrid Structures you will be:
- Read and understand enquiry documentation for formulating tenders.
- Undertake manual and electronic take offs from Structural Engineer’s drawings.
- Understand and interpret quantity schedules produced from 3D models.
- Technical ability to understand products, business strategy and engineering complexity of projects to apply an understanding to formulate Bids.
- Use a basic understanding of construction planning and sequencing to calculate construction costs / interpret costs provided by others.
- Produce spread sheets to enable build-up of pricing for material supply, engineering, fabrication, transportation, management and site construction of major Timber projects in the commercial, residential, leisure sectors.
- Understand and incorporate pricing of sub-contract support trades.
- Present the bid strategy, risk profile and commercial aspects of a bid to internal stakeholders.
- Complete all pricing for submission in a bid document including price summaries, bills of quantity and other commercial documents.
- Complete a full written tender document including risk mitigation, clarifications, qualifications, pricing details, terms and conditions and specifications etc.
- Attend pre-bid / mid-bid meetings with clients and engineers, keeping detailed records of discussions.
- Attend post tender meetings with clients to discuss submitted tenders, keeping detailed records of discussions and responding to all actions as required.
- Plan own work and priority in terms what is need and by when.
- Work to deadlines and communicate with others how your deadlines are impacted by them.
- Assisting valuing variations.
- Be clear in presenting information both internally and externally.
- Chase feedback on tenders from clients.
Working 36 hours a week / Monday to Friday / 3 days in the office & 2 from home / Early afternoon finish on a Friday
What are we looking for?
- Educated to HNC in construction materials and/or BSc in Quantity Surveying or MSc but dependent upon experience.
- Must have knowledge of estimating for steel and timber structures, of working with various contract forms and an understanding of fabrication process for all materials that are used (note training will be given on the products).
- Reasonably level of practical experience at a senior level in a subcontractor construction environment, in particular with process and people management.
- Engaging communicator who can articulate themselves clearly and build solid relationships with people.
- Commercially aware, with sound contract management knowledge and a solid negotiator.
- Methodical, contentious approach to work and determination to produce consistent output of the highest quality.
- Strong work ethic and self-motivation for all assigned works.
- Commitment to completing deadline driven tasks (and willingness to put in extra efforts outside of core working hours if required).
- Works well using their own initiative, pays attention to detail and is a proactive problem solver.
- Enthusiastic Team member of Hybrid Structures who will positively contribute to the continued development of the wider business.
