The governors of Ysgol Bro Eirwg are eager to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Estates Assistant to work as a key member of the school’s dedicated team of staff. Ysgol Bro Eirwg is a large two form entry school and the successful applicant will need excellent practical skills in order to help maintain the present high standard of the school buildings.

Ysgol Bro Eirwg is part of Ffederasiwn y Ddraig. The Estates Assistant will work with and under the direction of the Federation’s Estates Manager.

Job Purpose:
Under the direction/instruction of appropriate senior staff: assist in the provision of maintenance and security services on school premises and sites thereby ensuring a safe working environment

Duties and Responsibilities
Job Specific

OPERATIONAL
1. Security

  • Lock/unlock school buildings and areas
  • Assist with regular security checks
  • Operate and respond to alarm systems where appropriate
  • Cover lettings

2. Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Assist with minor repairs e.g. minor plumbing, changing light bulbs, unblocking drains, repairing door furniture
  • Operation of heating plant, cooling and lighting systems
  • Collect and assemble waste for collection
  • Undertake cleaning duties including graffiti removal, litter-picking
  • Undertake emergency cleaning duties as per agreed procedures
  • Provide emergency access to the school site
  • Ensure that pathways and all other external hard surface areas are kept clean, free of litter and that they are gritted or salted when required during wintry conditions
  • Assist with the maintenance of swimming pool and other specialist sports equipment following specialist training

3. RESOURCES

  • Ensure the maintenance of a clean and orderly working environment
  • Undertake basic record keeping as directed
  • Refill and replace consumables e.g. soap & towels

  • Report faulty equipment & other maintenance requirements to appropriate person
  • Maintain the security of school premises by securing entrances/exits as appropriate and reporting potential security breaches
  • Ensure lights and other equipment are switched off as appropriate

4. ORGANISATION

  • Porter duties e.g. delivering mail, moving furniture and equipment
  • Assist and participate in the organisation and movement of furniture within the building
  • Maintain and arrange orderly and secure storage of supplies
  • Operate everyday equipment in accordance with instructions
  • Maintain the site diary on a daily basis, where applicable.

5. HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with health and safety policies and procedures at all times and take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions and to comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate
  • Promote and ensure the health and safety of pupils, staff & visitor (in accordance with appropriate health & safety legislation) at all times

6. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
