Job description
International House Vancouver, a member of the Inernational House World Organization, operates an English language school, private career college, and Modern Language school in the city of Vancouver.
IH Vancouver provides high quality, innovative language programs for adults and juniors as well as teacher training programs. We achieve this with a learner-centered approach and with staff and instructors who are well-trained, experienced and motivated.
English as a Second Language Instructor for Young Learners aged 13-17 (Teen Program).
All candidates must:
- Have a Bachelor of Education degree in Secondary School Education
Or
- Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and a recognized TESOL certificate (CELTA or TESL Canada level 1)
- Produce a recent (within six (6) months) clear criminal record check at the time of hire
- Be willing to sign a waiver for working with minors
Instructors are expected to:
- Be able to deliver language and communication focused lessons effectively
- Respect their students as learners as well as individuals
- Encourage students to participate in class and pursue opportunities to communicate in
English outside of class
- Provide feedback to their students in a manner appropriate to the culture of the student and the environment of the school
- Make appropriate use of available technology
- Develop student ability in speaking, listening, writing and reading
- Assess student progress and level
- Be well-informed and sensitive to cultural issues
- Build on and improve existing lesson plans to engage students in their learning fully
- Monitor the students in class and on outings conducted and planned within the program
- Be open and listen to the opinions of their students at all times
- Use a wide range of activities and techniques to motivate student language learning
$24-27 per hour remuneration plus 4% vacation pay
Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 6 weeks
Salary: $24.00-$27.00 per hour
