We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as an ESG / Sustainability Investment Analys t to join our Sustainable Investments team.

The role
This is an integral role within the function that will support the Asset Management Sustainable Investments’ team’s efforts in private markets and related strategies aligned with the firm’s Sustainability strategy. This will include developing and refining investment strategies / frameworks in sustainable/transitional/productive finance for private market assets, also conducting deal-level pre-investment due diligence/assessments pertaining to Sustainability/ESG and related impact on pricing.
- Work closely with Phoenix Asset Management (AM) Origination and Credit Research teams in addition to external asset management partners to integrate ESG and Sustainability considerations into investment due diligence and decision-making. This includes deal-level pre-investment due diligence that culminates in partnering with AM Origination members on investment/credit committees and, quite often, also entails direct engagement with borrower(s)/deal arranger(s).
- Support AM SI Senior / Business Leadership on strategic efforts (and related implementation) pertaining to asset definition frameworks/investment strategies in Sustainability and ESG.
- Support the developments in-house MI, analysis of investment portfolios.
- Review ESG (including climate risk) risk and opportunity using in-house tools and MI provided by asset managers; provide commentary, written evaluation.
- Collaborate with AM Credit teams to develop a Ratings scorecard specific to ESG/Sustainability that can be applied on ESG due diligence findings and data.
- Assist with design and launch of new investment solutions in private markets aligned to the Net Zero commitment.
- Support asset manager capability assessments on ESG matters.
- Interfacing with peers, industry groups and other external organisations.
- Key relationships/interfaces
- Internally: ESG champions and other team members in PAM, Internal governance committee
- Externally: Interaction with asset management partners and broker-dealers, interfacing with peers, industry groups and other external organizations.
What are we looking for?
Knowledge & Experience
- ESG industry (or equivalent) experience in asset/fund management – be it in a traditional or alternative asset manager, or in the capital markets / debt origination department of a bank, or in a rating agency.
- Solid demonstrable understanding of ESG and Sustainability regulatory landscape and integration of ESG factors and considerations in investment due diligence, deal-level pricing and decision-making.
- Experience in credit/liquidity analysis and portfolio construction in Fixed Income and/or Private Credit would be highly desirable. Understanding of a broad range of financing transactions and the key provisions of debt documentation and how these differ across various sustainable / sustainability-linked debt products would be considered a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills
Tools/Systems
- Preference for know-how/experience in Advanced Excel, Bloomberg add-in functions, MSCI/ISS etc.
Qualifications
- University degree (or equivalent) preferred but not essential. CFA designation or pursuing a CFA would be considered a plus.
- Self-starter with good project management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong numerical and quantitative background
- Strong written and verbal presentation skills
