About the role:

As a Manager Research ESG analyst, your objective and independent research on ESG funds will help individuals, intermediaries, and institutional investors make better investment decisions, which is Morningstar’s primary mission. The position requires an interest in ESG and sustainable investing along with strong analytical, operational, and writing skills. In this role, you will research ESG funds, analyse industry data, and contribute to research reports, while also develop broader investment industry expertise that contributes to the team’s thought leadership. The Manager Research ESG Analyst will also be responsible for improving our operational goals to help scale Morningstar’s research products.

Job responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with members of the ESG Center of Expertise to create investor-centric, educational, and insightful ESG research
  • Analyse data and author ESG fund flow and landscape reports, thought leadership papers and articles
  • Collaborate with the data team and Sustainalytics to improve existing ESG datasets and develop new ones.
  • Work across research entities and other Morningstar departments to spread Morningstar’s ESG IP and capabilities across Morningstar products and platforms
  • Provide support to other analysts by sharing knowledge and assisting with ESG research assignments
  • Master our ESG research process and ratings methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience reviewing, cleaning, and understanding data to build dashboards and write reports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ESG and finance
  • Investor-centric with a strong investor engagement and service mentality
  • Strategic and analytical thinker
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a global-company environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong time management and organisational skills

Nice to have:

  • A good understanding of ESG capabilities across Morningstar and Sustainalytics
  • Knowledge of regulatory landscape as it relates to sustainable investing
  • Track record of delivering thought leadership dissecting the sustainable investing landscape
  • Knowledge of Python, Jupyter Notebooks, SQL a plus
