Morgan Stanley Research is uniquely committed to being an essential part of our clients' investment process. We strive to be the sell-side research provider that best understands the buy side. Through relevant and timely conversations with leading investors, we focus resources on risk-reward essentials: identifying the investor debates, assessing the potential outcomes, and uncovering the evidence our clients need to validate their investment decisions. Our equity analysts cover some 3,000 stocks; our economists, strategists and fixed income analysts cover all major regions and other asset classes around the globe.
Global Valuation, Accounting, and Tax (GVAT)
As part of the Research department, the GVAT team provides institutional investors and equity analysts with accounting, valuation, and financial modeling support. The team authors research on accounting, valuation, and tax related topics. GVAT has members in all regions and works closely with the Directors of Research. The team is responsible for implementing and maintaining modeling and valuation best practices and oversees Morgan Stanley’s proprietary ModelWare platform. GVAT also supports the Stock Selection Committee and is a key contributor to franchise reports and projects.
We are currently seeking an experienced Analyst or Associate to join the team. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to work with sector coverage analysts and associates across the department.
Primary responsibilities:
- Answering modeling, accounting and valuation questions from institutional clients and equity research teams
- Implementing and maintaining valuation and modeling best practices
- Working with analyst teams to avoid and resolve issues with their models and model data
- Authoring research on accounting, valuation and tax topics, including data analysis and note writing
- Conducting one-on-one and small group trainings
- Coordinating regional and global research projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- At least 1 year of professional experience in building financial models, including three-statement modeling and DCF
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or other relevant fields
- Advanced level of Excel proficiency
- Exceptional written and oral communications skills
- Experience working independently and demonstrated problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Experience working with equity valuation or advanced financial models (e.g., DCFs, M&A modeling, LBO)
- Working knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS
- CPA, CFA, and/or path towards attainment
- Data science; Python experience a plus
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year for Analyst, and between $150,000 and $200,000 per year for Associate, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
