Job description
Equine Veterinary Nurse
Are you a registered vet nurse looking for a position in a busy equine practice? If the answer is yes then please read on!
We have an opportunity for someone to come and join our fabulous team in beautiful Scotland. Whilst we may be biased there really is no better place to live and work! We have an amazing team, wonderful clients and patients, a purpose built clinic with full surgical facilities and can give you the opportunity to work as an equine nurse in a supportive and happy environment.
What will your day look like?
That’s not easy to answer because every day is different!
- Some days you will be in the clinic helping one of our vets with lameness workups. You might be taking radiographs or clipping and scrubbing for joint blocks and medications
- You may be out on the road assisting the vets with endoscopes or vetting radiographs
- You might be in theatre either nursing or scrubbed in assisting our surgeon
- We have patients staying with us that sometimes need intensive nursing or sometimes just a cuddle and a bit of TLC. Their owners may need some too
- There will be plenty of cleaning and sterilising, plus lots of juggling with different bits of equipment
- We have stables that will need to be mucked out although we have a fabulous groom to help you with that
- As a registered veterinary nurse we really want to encourage you to fully utilise your qualification and skills, so you may be out on the road doing bandage changes, taking bloods or running our weight clinics
- We run regular client talks and practical workshops that you might want to get involved with
- And you will be looking at poo! Our clients are very proactive with their FWECs so there is always plenty of poo samples to run and report
About You
- You will have a passion for horses and their people
- Be a registered vet nurse who is confident working with horses, although experience working in an equine hospital is not necessary as full training will be given
- Be positive and solution focused – we love it when our team come to us with new ideas and solutions to problems
- Have excellent communication skills
- Be willing to ask for help when needed and able to provide the same for the rest of the team
Our Practice
Passionately independent Loch Leven Equine Practice was established 18 years ago with the aim of providing a dedicated service to horse owners in Fife, Kinross-shire, Perth and the central belt. Preventative healthcare and education delivered in a caring and compassionate way is at the heart of what we do because healthy patients mean happy clients.
We enjoy working up our cases to get to the bottom of the problem so we can give our clients the options to make informed decisions about how we go forwards. Then we support them with whatever decision is best for them and their horse.
We are horse owners ourselves and know how worrying it can be when someone’s horse is unwell. We look after each and every patient as if they were our own.
And our team’s development and learning is a priority. A CPD budget is agreed as a starting point but we are yet to say no to a request for training that is going to benefit our team and therefore the practice and our patients. In the past we’ve funded multiple certificates, CPD courses abroad and personal coaches for our team.
Our Values
Integrity, trust, compassion, quality, learning & development and teamwork are the values that the practice is founded on and the values that we look for when people join our team. We always want to keep getting better and expect our team to work to high standards, be willing and open to learn and develop their clinical and people skills, and be open to giving and receiving feedback.
We have worked hard to provide a great work life balance by offering genuine flexible working for those with young families or other commitments, and a good out of hours rota (1:5) so our team can enjoy the beautiful place that we live. We are also proud that despite being a small independent practice we offer an enhanced maternity package to support our team when the time is right to start a family.
Food and lunch breaks are a major part of our day and we understand the importance of a well fed team! Home cooked lunches are provided and lunch breaks blocked off in the diary.
Salary
£25,000 - £30,000 - This is dependant on experience and qualifications. If you need to come in when you are on-call overtime is paid.
