Technician
Southdowns Environmental Consultants Ltd is one of the UK’s leading providers of environmental monitoring services in the field of noise, vibration, dust and air quality.
The company’s project portfolio includes many prominent infrastructure, residential and commercial development projects in London, elsewhere in the UK and overseas. Current monitoring projects include High Speed 2 and several major property developments across London.
We are now looking to recruit additional technicians to join our equipment team. We are looking for a London based individual to work from our offices in Camden. We are also looking for an individual based in or around the Milton Keynes area to work from a local base on projects in this region.
Successful candidates will be responsible for the preparation, installation and re-location of outdoor continuous monitoring systems, the trouble shooting of technical, software and/or hardware issues as they arise and the maintenance and testing of noise, vibration and air quality monitoring equipment. Training will also be provided, where required, for attended monitoring at sites where primary activities need to be observed and sample measurements of specific sources need to be obtained.
You will work as part of our dedicated Equipment and Data Management Team supporting consultants and other senior members of staff within the company. Some office-based work will also be required as part of the role, to maintain records of the sites and equipment, to manage and compile data for input to weekly, monthly and other site survey reports.

Principal Accountabilities
- To conduct and assist with outdoor site work;
- To download data from remote monitors, data processing and analysis;
- To provide general support to the in-house team of consultants;
- Installation, maintenance, servicing and decommissioning of monitoring equipment;
- Maintenance of equipment records and equipment workshops; and
- Assist with office and administrative activities.
Essential Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Good numeracy and IT skills with an understanding of general computer software packages inc. Microsoft Office;
- Good problem solving and practical skills;
- Ability to work outdoors throughout the year; and
- Good customer service skills and commercial awareness.

- Enthusiastic, conscientious, reliable and punctual;
- Self-motivated, organised with a strong work ethic and attention to detail;
- Interest in technology and how things work;
- Desire to consistently improve and develop; and
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 6+ or higher in GCSE Maths, English and Science;
- Knowledge and experience of environmental monitoring preferable; and
- Clean driving licence.
Training and Future Prospects
Following successful completion of company inductions, in-house training, professional development support and mentoring will be provided with the prospects of subsequent development within our Equipment and Data Management Team.
