BAM is recruiting an Environmental Sustainability Advisor for our Western (South West) region, reporting into the Environmental Sustainability Business Partner for Built Environmental and to Regional Senior Management within the region. The role will be based from either Bristol, Cardiff or Exeter office in the region with hybrid flexible working arrangements encouraged and actively supported.
You will support the operational business and provide advice and support on sustainability and environment strategy and policy, whilst also ensuring that standards are maintained through monitoring, reporting and training.
Your mission
- Key contact for regional projects seeking Sustainability knowledge & support.
- Standalone role, ensure the effective delivery of the EMS and sustainability strategy in the region level
- Provide environmental sustainability support, expertise and write responses to the tender and work winning process.
- Build relationships with and influence regional Clients, key supply chain partners and other industry stakeholders.
- Support delivery of Sustainability strategy within the business at regional level.
- Review of sustainability performance data within the region and feedback to the regions management team and Environmental Sustainability Business Partner for built environment on progress.
- Support training development and delivery to regional audiences.
- Share best practice across the operational business, projects within region and functions as required.
- Meet regularly with Business Partners for built environment to discuss performance and developments.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to project teams.
- Inspection and audit of standards within the region, support internal and external audit inspections and support the investigation of environmental incidents, advising on appropriate actions.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of internal environmental sustainability training.
- Engage with supply chain and relevant roles within the region to identify opportunities for sustainability improvement and best practice.
- Ensure subcontractors are aware of their environmental and sustainability duty when working for BAM, to ensure they comply with our procedures.
- Report to the regional Management Team on a monthly basis to feedback site environmental and sustainability performance and progress.
- Support the project teams and offices in establishing Environmental Management and Resource Management Plans
- Register and Support project teams with Considerate Constructor Scheme visits
- Support project teams in discharging their environmental and sustainability related planning conditions, and delivery of Framework KPIs specific to the role
- Good knowledge of BREEAM and be able to support project teams in understanding project requirements and achieving their targeted credits
- Undertake regular site visits to projects and offices within region to ensure environmental compliance and best practice on our projects and support teams in reporting their environmental performance on BAM's online environmental reporting system
- Responsible for administration of BAM online environmental reporting system within the region including training new users and QA of project data
- Support project teams in identifying and arranging more effective resource management options
- Support and advice departments within region and supply chain with Duty of care compliance documentation
Who are we looking for?
- A practitioner or Associate-level member of IEMA or similar professional body.
- Good working knowledge of the construction industry relevant to workstream coverage preferable.
- A passion for and commitment to sustainability issues with a specific focus on construction, delivering excellence and driving continuous improvement.
- Good level of experience gained through environmental sustainability advisory roles within organisations (private and/or public sector)
- A good technical knowledge and experience in one or more relevant sustainability areas and understanding of sustainability benchmarks (BREEAM etc.)
- Experience of working with, and influencing stakeholders internally and externally (including private and public sector client base).
- Some experience of supporting a successful bidding / work-winning environment.
- An understanding of the current and future landscape relating to environmental sustainability, including government strategy and policy, private and public sector client priorities and approaches.
- Good communication skills; an articulate presenter to internal and external audiences.
- Experience of collaborative working with clients and supply chain members.
- Ability to develop positive relationships and to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- A high degree of energy and self-motivation with ability to identify, develop & implement solutions
- Enthusiasm and ability to inspire and motivate people across a company to get involved, supporting personal development and business objectives.
- Organisation skills, good time management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to drive to sites across the Western Region/south west
