By working closely with the US government and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Corporate and Government Affairs team represents United on public policy and legislative issues. And our Environmental Affairs team is equally working hard to shape an environmentally sustainable future. Key Responsibilities:
- Implement corporate environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance at company’s IAD (Dulles) Location
- Assist in complying with company environmental management system as well as environmental compliance tracking
- Act as the environmental steward and champion sustainability efforts at your facility
- Serve as primary contact for emergency spill response, facility environmental compliance, and facility/corporate sustainability initiatives and for airport authorities and regulators for environmentally related items
- Provide station-specific compliance and sustainability data and maintain appropriate records
- Support other duties as assigned
- Manage and track waste disposal from waste collection areas; track and report site data that support United's global environmental strategy
- Provide guidance to the different work groups to ensure compliance and facilitate sustainability initiatives
- Handle compliance with DOT and RCRA requirements for record keeping, labeling and tracking of regulated waste generated by all company operations at facility
- Assist with preparation of paperwork and sampling required to remove regulated waste from the facility, including waste profiles and manifests
- Act as company’s designee in preparing and signing regulated/hazardous waste manifests, land disposal notification forms, and any other waste related paperwork for facility
- Ensure that all hazardous waste storage areas are clean, organized, properly identified, and accessible for inspection
- Ensure all company emergency response spill kits and waste management supplies at facility are inspected, maintained, inventoried and stocked
- Establish individual goals that align with departmental goals
- Responsible for developing individual career development and training plans with leader
- Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects

- Will be held accountable for providing constant and transparent communication to their Project Team, Leadership, Stakeholders and Customers

Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable environmental work experience
- 2-4 years environmental experience covering environmental field compliance
- Knowledge of environmental regulations in the aviation industry
- Must be an organized self-starter
- Strong time management skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to clearly communicate and present to collaborators and local United leadership regarding facility environmental compliance and performance
- Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
- Comfortable working with DOT/RCRA hazardous materials and chemicals
- Ability to move heavy materials as required
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

- Bachelor’s degrees in environmental sciences/policy or related area
- Airline, aerospace, or airport experience
- Knowledge of airline practices and operational procedures
- Ability to build trust and communicate across departments
