Job description
The role and our team
We are looking to recruit a conscientious and knowledgeable Environmental Specialist to join the Energy Infrastructure and Planning Delivery team in BEIS.
You will support our Environmental Managers to assess the environmental impacts of offshore and onshore energy development applications, and to provide specialist input into policy decisions affecting the future of the UK energy infrastructure planning regime.
Our friendly and supportive team will help you develop your environmental assessment skills through working on Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects.
This role provides and excellent opportunity for an early career environmental specialist to influence decision making in energy infrastructure planning.
Person specification
Key responsibilities
- Evaluating complex, technical and often conflicting environmental information to identify and advise on the nature and level of environmental risk associated with consenting energy infrastructure.
- Providing advice to tight statutory deadlines on the environmental impacts of energy infrastructure projects to fulfil statutory obligations by undertaking legally robust Habitats Regulations Assessments.
This is an exciting and challenging role requiring professional expertise, strong influencing skills and an ability to deliver robust advice, whilst balancing different priorities.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with a relevant ecology, environmental, or marine biology under-graduate degree, and an understanding of how the environmental impacts of development projects are assessed.
An environmental post-graduate qualification is desirable.
