Our newly established Energy and Sustainability Team are looking for an experienced Sustainability Manager to partner with our real estate clients on leading built environment projects, across the UK.
This is a newly created role within our existing sustainability team and we have very ambitious growth plans! The ideal candidate will have experience delivering carbon reduction within real estate/built environment and have the knowledge and credibility to engage with clients to advise them to their best ability to assess risks, realise opportunities and identify the best pathway to enable them to achieve these goals.

We’re looking for a sustainability expert to partner with these globally recognised education and scientific facilities to lead the change with exemplar major projects and property-related sustainability matters. Given their prestigious nature, this role will come with its challenges but if successful in overcoming these hurdles, we will be considered leading sustainability advisors for historic and prestigious properties, globally.
What you’ll be doing:
- Partner with clients on leading real estate projects and assets to advise on decarbonation strategies, strategic sustainability and energy plans
- Engage with clients as a trusted advisor and Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Analyse energy profiles, assess performance, generating insights and reporting
- Elevate your profile within Bidwells so internal colleagues from across the wider business see you as the go to for Energy and Sustainability building advice
- Hold sustainability workshops with necessary parties to identify and agree opportunities/constraints
- Make key recommendations to clients regarding their approach to environmental sustainability, including the approach to:
Energy conservation and carbon emissions reduction- Water conservation and water recycling
- Sustainable materials selection
- Construction waste management and diversion from landfill
- Operational waste management and diversion from landfill
- Opportunities to improve biodiversity
- Opportunities for sustainable modes of transportation
Make key recommendations regarding passive design, energy efficiency and approach to low carbon development following the ‘Energy Hierarchy’ and ‘Cooling Hierarchy’- Benchmark the likely energy and C02 emissions performance of those non-dwellings not assessed based on representative Part L2A results from similar developments
- Create and present the energy strategy to the design team and client for review
- Attend meetings as necessary to deliver the service
- Assess performance of design proposals against relevant planning conditions
- Undertake surveys and deliver sustainability services of a technical nature; BMS optimisation, Fault Detection Diagnostics, Energy Audits, Net Zero Carbon Audits, and such.
- Maintain advanced knowledge associated with carbon legislation, certifications and the wider sustainability agenda and regulations to ensure that internal and external colleagues/clients are always fully informed
- Build relationships with existing and new clients, identify opportunities, and assist in securing future business for the company
About you:
- Relevant degree associated with the built environment/sustainability
- Significant experience in sustainability management within the property and construction industry
- Advise, lead and influence large teams to achieve great outcomes for complex projects
- Successful relationships builder across internal and external teams
- Accountable and responsible for complex design and procurement issues working against fast moving project deadlines
- Demonstrate and communicate the value of sustainability objectives in conventional cost and value terms
- Ability to communicate effectively to articulate sustainability matters to a wide variety of stakeholders with varied understanding of the sector to ensure our business case and value is clearly received (gaining buy-in from clients and colleagues)
- Good organisation skills which ensures effective management of multiple projects and varied teams at once
- Experience of ISO14001 Standard accreditation
- Experience of building certification schemes such as BREEAM, WELL, Home Quality Mark
- Good knowledge of the Design for Performance NABERS UK process
- Good knowledge of construction carbon reporting, SBTIs, RICS and whole life carbon assessment
- Experience in completing submissions to ESG benchmarks, such as CDP, DJSI and GRESB
- Knowledge of the planning system
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams with the ability to quantify the impact of decisions from a cost and value perspective
- Professional and considered in their approach
