The Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for an Environmental Sustainability Analyst to join our Environmental Research and Consultancy Department – the CAA’s environmental centre of technical excellence. Our primary focus for this role is to support the UK Department for Transport in providing analysis, capacity-building and training activities to ICAO states on aviation CO2 emissions reductions, sustainable aviation fuels and carbon trade, offsets and removals under the ACT-CORSIA and ACT-SAF schemes. We are also developing and delivering CAA’s Environmental Sustainability strategy, implementing environmental policy and targets, developing net zero action plans and reporting on our corporate progress, and industry's progress internally and externally. We also provide technical and strategic support industry, community and other government stakeholders in all matters relating to aircraft noise, and increasingly in aviation emissions.
To analyse greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental data to provide information for: environmental analysis and reporting, government clients in the development of public policy relating to the environmental effects of aviation, and commercial clients for the purposes of aviation environmental management.
Core Accountabilities
- Undertake accurate, methodical, and well-documented numerical and textual analysis using a range of platforms and tools in the field of CO2 emissions, carbon trade and offsets and sustainable aviation fuels and other environmental impacts including aviation noise.
- Produce written and numerical outputs, including annual non-financial report, according to the CAA’s brand and drafting guidance. Actively develop knowledge of, and capability to use, environmental impact principles.
- Design and implement environmental policies and practices
- Support CAA and client organisation compliance with environmental legislation
- Contribute to development of development and implementation of CAA Net Zero strategy around Scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2 emissions
- Engage with colleagues in CAA on group-wide and organisation-wide activities and initiatives acting as a champion for environmental issues.
- Produce educational or information resources for colleagues, clients, stakeholders or the general public.
- Develop and deliver strategies for energy, waste and water
- Exhibit CAA’s values, including effective professional/personal development of self/colleagues
About You
To be considered for the role you must have a:
- At least three years’ relevant professional experience working in technical analysis of environmental impacts and mitigation would be essential, and desirable if this was specifically related to aviation.
- At least three years’ relevant professional experience working in technical analysis of aviation environmental impacts and mitigation would be essential
- Minimum of Graduate level educated or equivalent experience and Environmental, sustainability or related is essential
- Strong communication skills are essential.
- Experience in carbon reduction including scope 1, 2 and 3, waste hierarchy principals, working knowledge of environmental legislation and ISO14001 are desirable .
- Analytical and data management skills (Microsoft Excel and Access and SQL databases) and coding skills (VBA, C# and Python) are desirable.
- Knowledge and practical experience of emissions markets both cap-and-trade and offsets (including CORSIA) and sustainable aviation fuels and practical experience of working collaboratively with others across internal and external multi-disciplinary groups

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
