Main purpose of the role
As Environmental Compliance Engineer you provide support on-site on environmental regulation and management at Markinch CHP, and for the wider Biomass portfolio if required. You support the management of environmental compliance working closely with the UK environment team, portfolio chemistry engineers, site operations and engineering teams and Asset Management to ensure that the plant is operated in accordance with environmental and permit requirements. You report directly to the Plant Manager.
Your tasks and challenges
- Play a leading and active role in managing health, safety and environment: live our performance and Mission Zero safety culture and climate, and truly and authentically inspire your colleagues to do the same; progress continuous improvement in safety, wellbeing and environmental performance
- Manage compliance with the sites environmental permits
- Ensure appropriate monitoring data is collected to demonstrate compliance with permit requirements
- Provide environmental management advice to site Operations & Maintenance and Engineering teams and ensure a high level of environmental awareness
- Manage relationships with devolved government agencies, engaging with local government and regulators such as SEPA to ensure a positive relationship
- Actively manage stakeholders and provide support to the site management team to ensure a good relationship with key local stakeholders
- Continuously optimise processes and working methods, supporting environmental and other improvements at site and across the Biomass portfolio
- Manage contracts and budgets
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of environmental permit compliance requirements, environmental management systems and the management of the environmental risks associated with the operation of power station/ large industrial plant.
- Qualified to HNC / Degree Level in relevant discipline or relevant experience.
- Relevant qualification in environmental management.
- Strong HSE and Wellbeing mindset. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and directives.
- Good understanding of power generation processes and how the discipline fits within the organisation from a technical and commercial perspective.
- Performance-oriented: self-motivated to drive the business, increase performance and deliver results.
- Ability to deal with constantly changing priorities. Methodical, innovative, numerate, analytical, well organised and commercially aware.
- Possess strong team working skills and be able to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Broad understanding on key engineering and maintenance processes, procedures and systems.
- Living regionally or willing to relocate.

- An expected starting salary from £50,078 to £58,915 depending on experience and up to 15% annual bonus
