Job description
As an Environment Officer, you will work closely with businesses to help them comply with their permit and environmental regulations, enforce the law and influence operators to improve their environmental performance.
You will play a critical frontline role protecting the environment whilst working within a team who deal with a wide range of environmental issues from permitted and illegal waste sites to more complex and challenging installation facilities ensuring their activities do not harm people, wildlife or the environment. You will initially focus on regulating waste management facilities. You will work with our team leaders, our technical leaders and our officers to provide an efficient and effective service to all of our customers.
You will carry out inspections and audits of permitted sites and produce written reports capturing the findings. You will sometimes have to take tough action to achieve these aims, and on occasions, need to investigate environmental offences. You may also be required to occasionally give evidence in a court of law. Your work will be vital to the protection of the environment and will be varied, challenging, and rewarding.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
