If the answer is yes - then look no further. Church & Dwight UK Ltd have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Environment, Health & Safety Officer to join our team based in Folkestone, Kent.
The Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Officer works closely with the EH&S Manager to engage stakeholders to continuously improve our Health & Safety compliance and drive a culture of positive health and safety. Responsibilities covers our four UK business sites across Folkestone, including a manufacturing site and logistics warehouse.
Key responsibilities include:
- Actively engage with UK & US EH&S subject matter experts to develop and deliver locally aligned SOP’s.
- Drive improvements locally through full engagement and implementation of local EH&S committees.
- Maintaining an overview of the overall risk assessment framework (General workplace, Manual handling, COSHH risk assessments, etc.) and helping / coaching operational departments to ensure risk assessments are suitable and sufficient.
- Leading and participation in accident, incident, near-miss investigation and monitoring.
- Carrying out workplace inspections across allocated area and contribute to the operational excellence program with respect to EH&S integration and behavioral based safety thereby supporting site cultural change program for EH&S within business unit areas.
- Auditing of risk management systems for compliance with current and emerging health and safety legislation.
- To promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace, ensuring that employees comply with safety legislation and that safety policies and practices are adopted and adhered to. Assist with planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing protective and preventative safety measures and working in partnership with management and staff to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries
Regular duties include:
- Conduct ongoing reviews of operations and processes to identify possible hazards, risks, and control measures.
- Support of the risk assessment framework (General workplace, Manual handling, COSHH, DSEAR, fire risk assessments, etc.) and helping / coaching operational departments to ensure risk assessments are suitable and sufficient.
- Conduct safety and Environmental meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
- Maintenance of EH&S systems to ensure accurate record keeping.
- Coordinate and deliver in-house training for staff about health and safety issues and risks; new starters safety induction etc. manage, maintain and ensure delivery of monthly tool-box talks and safety briefs
- Implements, and conducts preventative care, safety and compliance training programs.
- Drive improvements locally through full engagement and implementation of local EH&S committees.
- Provide technical advice and support, working closely with the operational teams, provide assistance to managers and staff at all levels, support management teams with guidance on health and safety to ensure the business fulfils industry guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborates with EH&S Manager to develop H&S systems and serve as primary contact for site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management.
- Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
- Supports EH&S Manager to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with Legislative guidance, internal policies, procedures and practices.
- Maintaining databases used by the department, assist with collating accident statistics, KPI's and other statistical information
- Manage the first aid group and Fire Warden’s meetings and act as point of contact
The ideal candidate will be a NEBOSH trained H&S Officer, with experience within a manufacturing or similar organisation. In addition:
- NEBOSH Certificate and Membership to affiliated body i.e. IOSH at minimum Affiliate level, preferably Tech IOSH
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (including ability to liaise confidently with authorities and external bodies).
- Good knowledge and use of Microsoft Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Ability to plan and prioritise and work to deadlines.
- Maintain up to date knowledge/understanding of environmental, health and safety legislation.
- Good observational and investigation skills, ability to apply root cause analysis
- Practical application of risk assessment techniques
- Strong interaction and communication with different peer groups
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Motivation, drive, and enthusiasm for learning
- Can DO proactive attitude to Health and Safety issues
- Ability to cope with pressure, assertive and adaptable
