General Responsibilities:
Perform observations and documentation of geophysical and geotechnical exploration activities (e.g. soil/rock borings or test pits). Communicate with project manager, other engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives and others as applicable regarding the project site, project requirements, testing, observations and results. Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles and work areas. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • An Engineering Technician collects and analyzes samples of soil, rock, and other earth materials to determine variations in different landscapes.
  • Under close supervision by higher-level technicians or staff professionals, assists on tasks and perform basic testing and observation/documentation duties.
  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Communicates information to Project Manager and discusses accuracy of data in preparation for submittal.
  • Submits documentation and communicates results as directed by the staff professionals.
  • Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.
  • Maintains assigned equipment.
  • Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
  • Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work.
  • Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Assists in geophysical data collection and tests to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
  • The fieldwork will include logging of geotechnical sampling of soil and rock.
  • The applicant must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office computer programs.
  • Previous experience in outdoor/field working/driving conditions is preferred, not required.
  • The applicant must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Traveling daily from the office 50% or more, including overnight travel.
  • Perform other tasks/activities as required.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years related experience
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification:
  • Obtain 10-Hour OSHA certification within 6 months of hire.
