As Production Manager, you will be directing and motivating fleet production staff at Derby Etches Park depot to ensure EMR fleets are maintained, repaired, and cleaned in line with fleet performance requirements and maintenance goals. Through taking ownership of KPIs and improvement initiatives, you will also champion a clean, safe, and productive working environment that will motivate teams to deliver work on time and to quality and budget requirements.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and delivering the required fleet production output, maintenance regimes and materials to enable timely, safe, functional, and clean trains into service daily
- Maintaining a highly visible approach to health, safety, and environmental performance at the depot through coordinating and supporting QHSE activities
- Creating and maintaining the depot operations plan, including resources/infrastructure planning
- Producing quality reports to communicate appropriate information to the technical engineering team related to repeat defects and fleet improvement initiatives
- Developing contingency plans in response to issues impacting production delivery, quality, productivity, or cost
- Implementing production process improvements to ensure that the projected performance improvement in terms of planning, KPIs and budget are achieved
- Working with supporting functions (e.g. HR, Safety, Finance) to ensure production teams are resourced and equipped to deliver maintenance plans
- Carrying out investigations and producing reports related to safety and employment relations matters where required
- Developing and maintaining the employee engagement action plan, ensuring that depot communications are consistent, timely and responsive to engagement KPIs
To be successful in this role you will be:
- A great all-round communicator, verbal and written
- Able to direct and motivate others towards shared goals
- Skilled in conflict management and resolution
- A self-starter, comfortable with making decisions and taking action in response to changing situations
- IT literate, able to use Microsoft Office to produce reports, trackers and presentations
- Financially aware and familiar with contract administration
And you will have:
- A recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent engineering experience assessed to recognised standards
- A NVQ supervisory/management qualification; or equivalent experience at supervisory or managerial level
- A proven track record of managing and motivating a team and delivering KPI performance management in an engineering production environment, preferably in rail
- Ideally, you will be knowledgeable in traction and rolling stock maintenance standards and techniques. Personal Track Safety certification would also be beneficial, but not essential as we can organise this for the successful candidate.

Our depot operates 24/7. Although you will usually be working days (06:30 start), occasional working outside daytime hours may be needed to respond to incidents or other operational needs.
