POSITION SCOPE
The scope of the Engineering Manager is to manage a team to optimise the packing, storage and shipping operations, in order to improve safety, quality, hygiene, OEE, training, supply chain delivery and team working. The role has a team size of 25 42 positions with between 9 and 13 direct reports which includes apprentices and provides cover to 3 5 core areas with multiple stock-keeping units and changeovers.
POSITION STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY DELIVERABLES
- Safety, Hygiene, Environment - Improving performance against agreed targets
- Achieving / reducing budgets and developing and supporting cost reduction initiatives
- Continuous improvement leading to increased OEE
- Fragmented overhaul opportunities created to reduce non-productive operational time
- 2-3 year reliability programme that drives energy and efficiency improvments
- Scoping and delivery of a digitalistion programme for Packing & Warehouse activities
- Supporting the capital investment programme for the Thames site
- Create 2 year maintenance and overhaul plans for pakcing lines in line with OEM recommendations
- Material waste and sugar loss control and reduction
- Improvement in team skill level via training & development
- Employee engagement
- Meeting customer expectations and achievement of Quality targets ensuring that all internal and external audit criteria are met
- Elimination of repetitive faults, restrictions and waste leading to suggestions for Capital spend and the delivery of resulting projects
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages a team responsible for packing and warehouse optimisation and improvements
- Provides cover for the Packing Operations Manager and also the Packing Area Managers when required
- Manage the safe systems of work used within packing and warehouse to ensure all work is carried out to site standards
- Manages performance of each team member through clear communication of role expectations, regular performance appraisal, addressing shortfalls and recognising good performance
- Develops and implement employee training and development plans, ensuring succession plans are in place for key roles
- Develops and manages a graduate development programme for packing engineering graduates and engineering apprentices
- Lead development and improvement of the Preventitive Maintenance programs
- Contributes to Creates and owns manages budgets (e.g. labour, materials, training, CI)
- Provides guidance and support for department CI activities, including data display, improvement models and activities, and provides consistent centralised training service to each area
- Contributes to / assists in implementation of CI project activities to improve area operations (safety, quality, efficiency, change-over, waste and energy reductions)
- Liaises with internal customers (i.e. Operations Planning, Sales & Marketing) to ensure timely and accurate communications for regular and major planned works.
- Develops detailed understanding of area operations and key department interfaces in order to drive efficiency improvements
- Managing budgets with an approximate value of £3m
- Develops and manages maintenance plans associated to the AGV fleet

- Ideal candidate will have an Leadership based engineering background looking for people-management role
- Flexible management style working (facilitative through to directive)
- Proven leadership skills – able to motivate, provide vision and to be able to set clear expectations of acceptable standards
- Excellent communication – able to persuade & influence, hold team briefings, make effective cases for resource allocation (including minor Capital Expenditure)

- Ability to quickly gain technical understanding to ensure safe and efficient working practices
ESSENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCES
- Strong experience of Continuous Improvement, TPM & SMED techniques & ability to practically apply these to packing
- Proven track record of managing and improving technical teams
- Project management experience from concept to full life cycle
- FMCG & Packing time served experience
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Degree qualification (or equivalent) in related discipline
