Why Join Manchester?
There has never been a more exciting time to join our site in Manchester. We are firmly planted in the community thanks to a number of investments in the site over the past few years, totalling more than £70 Million. Our brewery remains a pivotal part of our UK supply chain network, producing around 5 million hectolitres per year of Foster’s, Kronenbourg 1664 – and, more recently – Heineken. We’re delighted to have been given the quality seal of approval from Amsterdam to make Heineken on our site – and as a bonus, we’re making our carbon footprint smaller in the process.
What are we looking for?
Our Head of Engineering is a pivotal role for both our Manchester Brewery, as we continue to raise the bar to meet global HEINEKEN standards where TPM (Total Productive Management) and continuous improvement are fundamental. This fantastic and varied role reports directly to the Site Director as part of the site Leadership Team and has responsibility to provide operational leadership across the utilities team as well as providing Engineering leadership across the entire site.
We expect supportive leadership over control, and you will use your coaching and mentoring experience to create innovative ways to support your team to thrive and work more productively and effectively.
This role will focus on continuous improvement without compromising quality in three key target areas; safety and compliance, preventative maintenance and influencing loss reduction through cross function teams and deploying a strategy that encourages ownership across engineering and operations.
To put it simply we are looking for an experienced leader with recognised qualifications, however, what is more, important to us is your operational leadership and people management skills and experience with similar complexity and size.
On top of being passionate about your job and demonstrating your can-do attitude and fine problem solving skills, you’ll ideally have the following:
- Positive and safety-focused outlook with a continuous improvement mindset (e.g. Lean, ManEx, TPM, Six Sigma)
- Previous experience managing a large budget
- Proven servant leadership skills with examples of developing and coaching a high performing team
- Experience in leading change programmes demonstrating technical and management abilities

We encourage all our colleagues to grow and reach their full potential. We’re also well-aware that successful careers seldom run in a straight line, so if you’re in search of fresh opportunities (including global or cross-functional moves), mentoring or simply want to pick up a new skill, you’ll have access to all the support you need.
Caring for people & the planet is one of our core values and we understand that each of our colleagues’ needs and circumstances are different. This is why we have a smarter working policy in place which includes access to hybrid working, flexible start and finish times and condensed hours, to name a few.
Our colleagues love life at HEINEKEN, and we’re confident you’ll feel the same way – but don’t take our word for it. Search the #LifeAtHEINEKENUK hashtag on LinkedIn to hear from our colleagues about what makes HEINEKEN such a special business to be a part of.
