Essentia engineering are seeking experienced maintenance specialists to join our shift team. The post holder will have an electrical / mechanical bias, but be expected to provide a multiskilled service where required (mechanical/ plumbing/ electrical and Hvac) to the Engineering Department and other Directorates within Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
As a Shift Engineer your duties will include the following:
- Ensure that routine maintenance is carried out to all building plant equipment and systems to meet and exceed expectations and agreed service level agreements.
- Respond to Building Management System alarms and effect emergency repairs as needed.
- Respond to High Priority work calls and effect emergency repairs as needed.
- Attend, repair and close work orders down using PDA device inline with trusts SLAs.
- Ensure that engineering subcontractors are appropriately supervised and comply with contractual commitments and site operating processes.
- Provide daily reports to the engineering management team.
- Provide on-call shift cover for opposite shift members during periods of absence.
- Communicate with clinical and engineering management teams.
- All other duties reasonably associated with this role.
- A minimum of 27 days (based on a 7.5 hour day) annual holiday allowance (not including bank holidays), plus the option to buy and sell. Increasing to 29 days after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years.

The role of the Shift Engineer is to primarily support the running of the hospital by resolving breakdowns and by carrying out maintenance. The engineer will be able to install, maintain, fault find, test and validate and problem solve complex equipment/systems/plant in accordance with manufacturers instructions, relevant H&S regulations, Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs), Hospital Technical Memorandums (HTMs) British Standards etc. and in the most efficient manner.
