Job Description
JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead
SALARY: £85,255.00 - £110,300.00 GBP
LOCATION(S): Bristol
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in the Bristol office site
About this opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Engagement Lab for an Engineering Lead within the Consumer Services & Engagement Platform.
The aim is to deliver the highest quality customer driven software whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring, and supporting their engineering teams.
They will work in cross-disciplinary teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high-quality software and showcase excellent interpersonal and communication skill whilst efficiently working across the project life cycle to ensure software operates as intended. They will be an advocate for Engineering best practices, providing a voice to Engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting their teams in resolution of impediments and issues as well as continually developing themselves with industry best practice and tooling used across their engineering team.
This is a leadership level role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within a feature team and great passion for coaching and developing people in a “player-coach” model.

  • Build efficient, reusable, scalable and secure systems, and abstractions.
  • Identify software systems improvements and implement best in class methodologies to produce quality software.
  • Collaborate with the product & design team to iterate the design function and implement the products.
  • Create a culture of learning and continuous improvement through a “Fail Fast, Learn Faster” mentality within teams to experiment and test new ways of engineering, to act as a change agent for engineering and team culture, and to cultivate a systems-thinking and user-experience led design approach.

  • You're passionate about technology and its application to real-world problems, such as software automation and delivery and you'll bring the right mind-set to the role.

  • You can identify and evaluate complex expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
  • Sound experience in using and adopting a wide range of engineering practices and tools across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Passionate about continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automation

What you’ll need –
We believe that people don't fit neatly into roles, and we value everyone's individual skills, experience, and knowledge — it's what makes you amazing!
As a minimum to be considered, we would like to see demonstrated experience of:
  • An understanding of the full web application stack, deep and broad knowledge, with focus on Back-end API skill set.
  • Significant exposure to public cloud & modern web technologies, especially; Java, Spring Boot, Web frameworks, Golang and microservices.
  • Leadership experience of Engineering teams through line management, coaching & mentoring of developers
  • Familiar with an enterprise environment with automated build/test/release processes, source code management (Git) and change-management (JIRA)

And any experience of these would be useful.
  • Experience of GCP technologies like GKE, Spanner, BigQuery and Apigee.
  • Experience with streaming applications utilising Kafka.
  • Creating and leading frameworks in a modular codebase and familiarity with Backend development.
