GE Grid Systems Integration (GSI) are looking for Electrical Engineering Students (preferably with a Power Engineering bias) who want to start their career journey work within a dynamic projects business. GE are offering the opportunity to undertake a two-year training period during which you will be able to learn about the key elements needed to successfully design and deliver High Voltage Transmission projects.GSI, a GE Renewable Energy business, serves customers globally with over 2,200 employees worldwide. Job Description
The GSI business team is a turnkey project business that works with its internal and external partners to engineer, procure, construct and commission a wide range of projects associated with the bulk transmission of electrical power. These projects typically include:
- New high voltage AC and DC transmission substations
- Expansion and reinforcement of existing transmission substations and networks
- On and Offshore substations to facilitate windfarm connections and other renewable technologies.
- Transmission asset replacements
- Network compensation and stability projects
- Energy Storage Projects
Based principally in the GE UK Office in Stafford, this two-year programme will provide the opportunity to spend time working with all the main functions that together take a basic customer requirement and bring it in to existence. This will include
- Tender Engineering:
Learning how the tender team take the Customer’s requirement and engineer them into a solution that can be costed and bid.
- Delivery Engineering:
Work with the various Engineering Teams, in the project delivery phase as they start to take the tender design and develop it to the level of detail needed to obtain the Clients approval, procure the materials, and create the technical information needed to undertake the construction and commissioning activities.
- Project Management:
Understand how the Project Manager coordinates and manages the execution of the project and works closely with all the stakeholders and Client to deliver a successful outcome.
- Project Controls:
Get an appreciation of the work done by the Project Controls team as they manage the project schedule and control the costs.
- Construction and Commissioning:
Spend an extended period working on one or more of our construction sites to learn how our Site Teams turn the designs into reality. From the initial Civil Works, through the Construction phase, and into the final commissioning of the installation, this rotation of the training provides a practical ‘hands-on’ approach to learning.
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you will have (or be expecting to get) an undergraduate or Masters Degree in a Power Electrical Engineering discipline at the time of commencing employment.

While previous experience is not required, to be successful in this role you should have a strong interest in engineering and be looking for this to be your chosen career.
You will have a natural desire to understand how things work and want to know how large capital projects are taken from a simple ‘need case’ to becoming a tangible asset. You will enjoy problem solving and see challenges as opportunities.
You will be a team player, with good communication and interpersonal skills, be a self-starter with a high level of flexibility, resilience and a self-learning attitude.
