Work for the world you want to live in.

Wouldn’t you want to live in a world where people, populations and the planet thrive? Where technology protects rather than threatens. Where societies feel safe and secure. Where cities and continents feel part of one global community.

We’re an international aerospace, defence, and security company, with sites all-round the UK, that do loads of exciting and important things to make the world safer and more secure. We defend nations, save lives and protect communities around the globe.

Rosyth:
The Digital Manufacturing Apprenticeships are based at Rosyth.
At the heart of our Marine sector is our 320-acre Rosyth facility, which is home to one of the largest waterside manufacturing and repair facilities in the UK. The facilities have been an iconic presence on the River Forth for more than 100 years and carry a name synonymous with engineering excellence. Our world-class assets and infrastructure support a diverse range of naval and commercial marine programmes as well as advanced manufacturing.

At Rosyth, you can expect to work on the manufacturing and construction elements of the build, maintenance and refit of UK Royal Navy and international naval vessels, including the Type 31 Frigate Programme, UK Submarine Dismantling Programme as well as various commercial marine projects.

Our wider engineering and marine services business encompass the through-life support of complex assets, marine engineering and platform design, advanced manufacturing, and the international application of intellectual property via our Gas Handling business, LGE.

For more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence Company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly skilled engineering services. We help customers in the UK and around the world to improve the capability, reliability, and availability of their most critical assets within the four market sectors of Marine, Land, Aviation, and Nuclear, underpinned by a deep understanding of technology integration, unique infrastructure, and specialist training.

Digital Manufacturing Apprenticeship:

To gain through formal training and working experience the skills and knowledge required to operate successfully within a technical manufacturing/construction functional role, with a specific focus on digital manufacturing and transformation.

Assist experienced Manufacturing Engineering and Systems Integration team members in providing design for manufacture evaluations, build and assembly methods (think Lego instruction for building ships!) including 3D modelling and 2D drawings required throughout the design and build cycle. This will include conceptual and detailed designs of manufacturing and construction processes, evaluating, developing and integrating new production technologies including automation, and thinking out of the box to design completely new processes. Work will be directed and supervised by the relevant discipline lead for the relevant task or project being undertaken.

There is an opportunity to specialise in one of our key disciplines, which are: Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Integration, Large Scale Metrology, Automation Technician, or Technology Research and Development.

Key Result Areas
  • Supporting engineering processes and understanding digital manufacturing
  • Developing meta-skills and personal professionalism
  • Designing and building within engineering or providing design-led solutions
  • Maintaining engineering equipment and diagnosing and resolving faults
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and managing teams and stakeholders

Possible placements:

Our Design Apprentices will work at a variety of locations and projects across the site and may move around to gain experience in a variety of design activities across the manufacturing lifecycle. During the early year/s of the apprenticeship time will be spent undertaking further education.
