Summary
The Refinery Value Chain Optimization team has an opening for a Refinery Operations Coordinator (Commercial Engineer). This role is in Anacortes, WA but reports through the Commercial organization.
This position reports directly to the Planning and Economics Supervisor. The successful candidate will work closely with the Process Engineering Team, Operations Team, and Commercial Team to optimize refinery disposition and operating plan.
This individual will gain a more holistic perspective of Marathon profitability and engage in cross-functional interaction with the Clean Products team, Crude and Feedstocks team, Marketing, Refining, and MPLX. The candidate will also broaden their knowledge base concerning West Coast market dynamics and total value chain optimization. The key characteristics to be successful in this role are communication, critical thinking, drive for results, and adaptability.

Responsibilities
- Determine optimal refinery operation via interpretation of Aspen PIMS model results and key economic drivers. Align key stakeholders on unit and product priorities based on current economics.
- Issues the refinery target sheet in accordance with the optimized production plan, refinery constraints, or shipping constraints.
- Discover new opportunities to optimize the refinery.
- Maintain PIMS model constraints to ensure accurate forecasting.
- Develop production plans via AspenTech Petroleum Scheduler (APS) and communicate these plans to refinery and other stakeholders.
- Track lost opportunities and communicate opportunities for improvement in reliability based on metrics and trends in unit performance
- Perform routine deliverables, including Forecasts, Economics Evaluations, Crude backdowns, etc.
- Optimize refinery maintenance plans to minimize lost opportunity and impact to production.
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Chemical Engineering
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications
- Minimum of 3 years in Refining with higher consideration to candidates with > 5 years of experience in Refining
- Higher consideration to candidates with Aspen Petroleum Scheduler (APS) user background
- Higher consideration to candidates with Aspen PIMS LP user background
