Job Overview
We are currently looking for an Engineering Designer to join our team in Holland or Big Rapids, MI. This posting is based on the minimum requirements for a level I, however we are open to an entry level or experienced designer.
As an Engineering Designer, you will:
Serve our customers with a focus on cohesive quality through engineering design documentation. Individuals will utilizes their technical background to document, or oversee documentation, to support ordering, manufacturing, and introduction of products.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate within a Bill of Materials.
- Understand tasks within the business flow; including Inquiry/Consulting, BOM, Modeling, Manufacturing, Mock-ups and Install.
- Assists in engineering layouts for small projects, using appropriate Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools to accurately present design concept. Establishes initial multi-dimensional model base features, using tool.
- Engineering for proper form, fit, and function, including basic manufacturability, assembly, and disassembly, using CAD tools and/or calculator, to ensure design and documentation of new and existing products meets established quality and performance standards.
- Makes initial selection of materials, common or generic parts, and engineering standards for designs, using catalogs, reference books, other product drawings, or basic engineering principles.
- Develops engineering assembly and detail documentation to support Tailored Solutions new designs.
- Prepares engineering documentation, including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Bills of Material (BOMs), parts lists, engineering specifications, and other supporting forms, either manually, using PC-based word processing and spreadsheets, or CAD, to maintain clear project documentation.
- Assembles tailored product, using power and hand tools. Lifts/moves parts weighing up to 60 pounds. Interfaces with production areas for information gathering and pilot product development activities.
Do you have these required qualifications?
- Minimum of Associate's degree in Engineering, Engineering Design, Product Design, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field. In lieu of degree, 2 years of relevant work experience for every year of education not completed.
- 3D solid modeling CAD systems (PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventory) product design experience.
- Previous BOM experience
- Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to travel overnight away from corporate offices, including internationally, up to 10% of time.
- Ability to work in either our Holland or Big Rapids, MI office without relocation assistance.
Do you have these Preferred Qualifications?
- Experience in commercial office furniture
- Experience with Microsoft Office, ERP, Operating Macros via Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of applicable global standards such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) and Canadian Government Test Standard (CGSB)
