About the Role
We are seeking a Jr. Mine Engineer Geotech to work in the Geotechnical team reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This role will perform geotechnical duties pertaining to open pit including analysis, provide guidance to mine operations concerning ground instabilities in the pit with the ultimate goal to ensure safe copper production.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine standard operating procedures, MSHA safety guidelines, and are certified to execute the tasks/jobs assigned.
- Ensure standard procedures/guidelines and work instruction are followed so the required geotechnical data is collected, analyzed, interpreted, and the results are adequality communicated such that they are applied to develop recommendation to Mine Planning team.
- Ensure geotechnical monitoring systems and equipment is operational and validate data being collected.
- Install, monitor, and maintain of Piezometers, communication equipment Prisms, stands, wireless transmission equipment, etc.
- Ensure that all significant slope instability related incidents within the areas for which the Geotechnical Engineer is assigned are properly inspected, evaluated, and reported to key stakeholders. Furthermore, that input, and recommendations are provided to Mine Planners and Mine Operations for safely working around and/or remediating the slope instability.
- Ensure that necessary geotechnical reports and documentation are produced and distributed to key stakeholders as specified by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer.
- Ensure that the necessary geotechnical reviews of mine designs that investigate for all relevant slope failure mechanisms are conducted for the areas for which the Geotechnical Engineer is assigned and specified by and under the guidance of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, and the results and any potential risks are communicated to key stakeholders.
- Ensure that updates are incorporated into the Ground Control Management Plan (such that has relevant information that is communicated to all mine personnel.
- Seismograph layout, collection, and vibration analysis.
- Management of in pit geotechnical based projects such as Horizontal drain installation or core drilling.
- Work with vendors to assure equipment is running optimally.
- Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required.
Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, geotechnical engineering, geologic engineering, or similar.
- Knowledge of theories and practices in mining/geotechnical engineering.
- Strong project management skills required.
- Excellent communication, analytical, management and problem-solving skills are required.
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Prior exposure to mine planning/geotechnical software is preferred.
- Knowledge of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence is preferred.
- Prior experience in an open pit copper operation preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.
Physical Demands of the Role
- This role is generally 75% office environment and 25% field environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for short durations, including walking up and down stairs and across uneven surfaces.
- Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, occasionally in confined spaces.
