The Team
As the IT Global Technology Operations (GTO) team, we strive to deliver the core technology capabilities for the foundation through innovation paired with operational excellence. We aspire to be dynamic, collaborative, technology leaders enabling mission impact with the highest standards of integrity. The Sr. Engineer IT Security and Facilities Systems is focused on designing, implementing and maintaining the related infrastructure and applications that enable us to support the foundation in achieving its goals.This position reports to Sr. Manager, IT – Global Technology Operations.

Your Role
You will be the primary subject matter expert for technology platforms and systems supporting security and facilities functions at Gates Foundation and affiliate organization offices. You will use modern IT principles and practices to lead all aspects of related technology platforms, including access control, video monitoring and management, intrusion detection, and building management systems. You will partner with peers in IT, facilities, and global security teams to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and fit for use.
What You’ll Do
Lead design processes in partnership with consultants, security integrators and operations colleagues.
Coordinate the installation of solutions that ensure our employees have safe, comfortable, and stable working environments.
Communicate conceptual designs to internal partners and external consultants.
Review and direct the work of physical security engineering design consultants and integrations vendors.
Collaborate with operations peers to develop design standards, evaluate cost, risk and benefits of designs, and facilitate design discussions.
Regularly collaborate with security operations personnel to ensure alignment of security technology capabilities and configurations with functional needs and use cases.
Develop and maintain knowledge of physical security product markets and relevant developments, releases, and innovations.
Maintain a multi-year roadmap to ensure our systems align with technological advances in these fields.
Identify, monitor and report on key indicators for systems and technology performance, reliability and event/alarm accuracy and volumes.
Manage device and application upgrades and patches and monitor security and vulnerability notifications for physical security platforms and products.
Facilitate remote support, including working with onsite technicians and integration partners local to a given site location.
Travel to our global offices after new work or major system upgrades are completed to accept the work on behalf of the foundation and ensure the systems are commissioned properly.
Write high quality documentation for system procedures, standards, and operations. Work hand in hand with installation and operations teams to maintain and manage the solutions.
Configure, run, and optimize reports and dashboards of system access, configuration, and event data to support internal programs and partners.
Your Experience
BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
5+ years of experience designing, programming, and supporting physical security systems, including access control, video monitoring and management, intrusion detection, and building management systems. An understanding of both their function and limitations is important.
Industry and vendor specific certifications such as Lenel, Axis, or Milestone would be a strong advantage. PSP and/or CPP preferred.
Detailed knowledge of construction and electrical wiring, as well as a strong comprehension of design plans.
Proficient with much of the following: access control panels, biometric hardware platforms, camera hardware platforms, network cabling, intrusion system hardware, video appliances and servers, desktop (PC), environmental controls hardware, two-way radio platforms, emergency notification systems, video walls and additional hardware platforms.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and speech, as well as being able to prepare and present IT-related material to a wide variety of audiences, including leadership (technical and non-technical).
Familiarity in system design and design tools such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, etc.
Knowledge of relevant security standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA) and the ability to ensure systems comply with these requirements.
Basic familiarity with the Agile methodology (Jira, Confluence, Mural/Miro).
Working knowledge and/or certification with information security protocols and services (hardening) including HTTPS, SRTP, cipher suites, certificates, and certificate authorities.
- The typical salary range for this role is $101,100 to $188,100 USD. The exact offer will be determined by a variety of factors such as the candidate’s individual skills, qualifications, and experience relative to the requirements of the role.
- Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.
