Job description
Serco NorthLink Ferries is a dynamic organisation with a strong reputation in both passenger and freight transport operating between the Northern Isles and Mainland Scotland.
We are currently seeking three candidates living within the catchment area of the NorthLink Ferries operating ports (Aberdeen, Scrabster, Shetland & Orkney) who are keen to begin a rewarding career at sea.
Engine Room Rating Apprentices (3)
Through our Engine Room Rating Apprenticeship you will undertake a fully funded 18 month training programme where you will attend college at UHI Shetland and gain experience on board the NorthLink vessels. The course will begin September 2023.
Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship, you will gain certification in:
· STCW Basic Training
· Watch Rating Certificate STCW Reg III/4
· Diploma in Maritime Studies: Able Seafarer (Engine Room)
· Able Seafarer STCW Reg III/5
In your role at sea you will carry out a variety of physical duties, within a supportive team and under the guidance of experienced Officers, to help ensure the smooth sailing of vessel operations. During your sea time you will be supported by a mentor onboard the vessel to progress through your Merchant Navy training book.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable, determined and hardworking candidates. You will be a self-starter, team player, problem solver. The role will require you to work shift patterns (two weeks on, one week off) and you must be able to pass a seafarers medical examination for working at sea.
We would expect candidates to hold at least National 4 or equivalent in Maths and English.
