The role

An internal communications specialist is being sought by one of Scotland’s oldest charities. Throughout our 230 year history, we have constantly evolved and changed to ensure that we are delivering innovative and high quality services to ensure that people with sight loss can live well and independently. A motivated, inspired, informed and engaged workforce is essential to the delivery of our services and this role is instrumental in delivering this. With a wide range of operations spanning two charities and services including a school, residential care, social enterprise and community support, the Internal Communications and Engagement Manager ensures that our employees see the golden thread running through the breadth of our work and work effectively together across different professions and geographical areas.

This role designs and delivers tailored communications across a range of channels, including email newsletters, video, intranet and leadership engagement opportunities. During periods of strategic change, the post holder is also responsible for change related communications strategies that can expand to external audiences as well such as our service users and stakeholders.

Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans have a hybrid working policy, enabling colleagues in Head Office roles like this one to work both from home and in the office which is located in Edinburgh. This role requires the post holder to work a minimum of two days a week in the office, with the days dependent on business needs.

About you:

Professional experience of:

  • Working in a role focussed on strategic internal communications

  • Delivering change related communications, including around organisational culture

  • Writing messaging on behalf of senior leaders, including content of a sensitive and / or confidential nature

  • Developing communications and engagement strategies working across different channels including video, multiple stakeholder audiences and utilising a variety of tactics

  • Using Sharepoint and email marketing software such as Mailchimp

  • Writing and editing staff newsletters and other materials for internal promotional campaigns

Skills:

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong grammatical accuracy

  • Ability to deal with confidential information, prioritise and work to tight deadlines

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external audiences in a sensitive and empathetic manner, listening to and valuing opinions

  • Ability to engage with staff at all levels including senior leaders

  • Responding and behaving positively to change, identifying and acting upon new opportunities and encouraging others to embrace change

  • Strong understanding of what matters to employees, service users, families and customers

  • Strong level of personal resilience

  • Commitment, energy and enthusiasm for achieving organisational goals

  • Willingness to work flexibly according to organisational need, with the ability to work out of hours for which TOIL will be granted
