JOB SUMMARY
We’re looking for a highly motivated, well-organised and enthusiastic Project Manager to join us to help deliver an exciting programme, Project Groundwater, in partnership with Buckinghamshire
Council and a range of other organisations. Project Groundwater is an innovative Defra-funded partnership programme which seeks to improve understanding, raise awareness, and increase resilience to groundwater flooding across 9 communities at risk of groundwater flooding within the
Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs – and here at Groundwork we’re delighted to have been appointed as the community engagement delivery lead.
As Project Manager you will play a key role in taking forward the delivery of this project, planning and delivering effective community engagement to improve community resilience to groundwater flooding, as well as developing relationships with a range of organisations across the partnership.
You will be responsible for overseeing the team of Community Engagement Officers, and ensuring that the work we deliver meets our agreed objectives to a high standard and in a timely manner, as well as being aligned with wider Project Groundwater activities and outputs. You will line manage staff and interface with a range of multi-disciplinary teams across Groundwork South and East, and will have key project management responsibilities including managing budgets, monitoring progress and reporting to funders/partners.
As the lead Groundwork representative on this project, you will be comfortable in managing your own projects, whilst working collaboratively with partners and wider stakeholders from different sectors. Whilst you will report to the Area Programme Manager, who will have oversight of the project, you will need to be able to work independently without direct supervision. You will have the confidence and skills to engage with people from a range of backgrounds and ideally have proven experience in delivering and / or managing community development projects.

- Project manage and coordinate our community engagement operations, doing so in line with agreed community engagement targets and plans, as well as the activities and focus of the wider Project Groundwater programme.
- Manage the project’s community engagement team, including staff line management, ensuring the delivery of high-quality community engagement work.
- Manage and develop partner and stakeholder relationships across the public, private and voluntary sectors in order to effectively engage the pilot communities within Project
Groundwater, creating opportunities for regular communication and feedback from project communities.
- Lead on project management tasks, including completing and monitoring action plans, timelines, regular evaluation, risk assessments, and agreeing ways of working with project partners.
- Manage the project budget, ensuring the funding is spent on time and as agreed with the funder and partners, and regularly reporting on this both internally and externally.
- Monitor and evaluate progress against agreed targets and outcomes, taking the lead on reporting to the funder and partners.
- Contribute to the project’s publicity and marketing, ensuring that this is effective.
- Contribute to the development of communication resources and other key project documentation to support project delivery.
- Represent the project and organisation at meetings, conferences, and events – including participating in regular Project Groundwater partnership and board meetings.
- Ensure professional best practice and compliance with Groundwork, Partner and Funders’ finance regulations, project management requirements and practices, safeguarding processes, management and administrative systems and procedures.
KEY AREA: PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Report on a monthly basis to your line manager where (i.e. against budget) your project currently stands on a financial basis and against the milestones/outcomes requested by of it by the funder, as well as actual versus predicted performance in terms of Project Performance Measures (PPMs).
KEY AREA: FUNDRAISING
Assist in strengthening links with partner organisations and securing additional funding as required, including supporting the project team in identifying opportunities for community fundraising.
KEY AREA: PARTNERSHIP & STAKEHOLDER WORKING
Formalise partnerships and build strong links with stakeholders.
Attend and represent the Trust at relevant meetings, steering groups, forums and conferences, including attending out of office hours when necessary.
KEY AREA: PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
Provide support and direction to members of staff to ensure they understand their roles so as to facilitate the achievement of the Trusts’ objectives.
Provide proactive performance management of staff via the Trusts’ processes.

Knowledge Relevant degree or vocational qualifications that match the job description and industry X experience/sector (environment, flooding, climate change, community engagement)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Salary £28,000-£30,000 per annum
Contract Fixed term to September 2025 with high potential to extend depending on project achievements / focus
Hours of work Your normal hours of work are 37.5 hours each week excluding a daily lunch
break and travel to and from the main place of work.
Place of work Your normal place of work will be Colne Valley Regional Park Centre, Denham,
UB9 5PG; with scope for remote home-working and/or working in other
Groundwork offices part of the week. You may be required to travel on
Groundwork’s business to carry out your duties at other locations as may be required for the proper performance of your duties.
Holidays 25 days per annum plus English Bank Holidays. A pro rata entitlement is calculated for part time workers in each holiday year (which runs from the 1st
January to 31st December).
Pension Groundwork will comply with the employer pension duties in respect of the worker in accordance with Part 1 of the Pensions Act 2008 in relation to the
Groundwork Pension Scheme, or such other registered pension scheme as has been set up by Groundwork. Participation in such schemes is subject to satisfying certain eligibility criteria and the rules of such scheme as amended from time to time.
