Main Purpose of the Role
The Strategic Development division of RWE Generation SE is responsible in our core markets for the identification and origination of strategically important new decarbonisation projects for existing and new power plants (including carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) or hydrogen solutions). We have a number of roles in our growing international team that is tasked with delivery of multi £bn power projects that are critical to RWE Generation’s decarbonisation pathway to achieving Net Zero. Key to this role is your enthusiasm and ability to assess the suitability of new technologies from a technical, economic, environmental, social and governance perspective.
This position will give you the opportunity to further develop understanding of decarbonisation technologies to be implemented at our power plants and projects and give you exposure to senior internal and external stakeholders. You will be a key member of the Strategic Development team and will interface with most functions in RWE Generation - this will provide a unique opportunity to influence our future RWE Generation business. Initial interviews will be held online on 13 and 14 September 2023.
Key Responsibilities
- Scouting of technological trends - Identifying, locating, and evaluating existing or developing technologies, products, services, and emerging trends
- Deep dives into topics - Thorough analysis of specific technological opportunities and making recommendations as to the way forwards for RWE Net Zero goal in 2040
- Stakeholder engagement – Management of and engagement with key internal and external stakeholders involved in development of new technologies, scouting services and project specifics
- Financial tracking - Support the management of budgets for external technology scouting services
- Database management - Extracting best value from scouting services and setting up databases for use by the whole of Strategic Development
- Presentation of ideas - Development of powerpoint presentations for either inclusion in meetings or presenting to key internal stakeholders
- Support the wider RWE Scouting processes - Active member of the broader RWE Technology Scouting matrix team
- Ad-hoc project support - Undertake project-specific requests for Project Managers in Strategic Development
Knowledge & Skills
- Recently graduated with university degree in engineering or natural science, or at least 3 years’ relatable experience in the energy sector
- Attention to detail is essential; methodical, innovative, numerate, analytical and highly organised and structured
- Genuine interested in new technologies and decarbonisation
- Demonstration of complex thinking skills, including both analytical and conceptual in solving problems
- Able to work across national borders
- Have a good understanding of the market and technologies in which RWE operates
- Strong communication skills and confident behaviour at all levels both internally and also representing the company externally
- Willingness to travel, fluent in English. Knowledge of German and/or Dutch an advantage Proficiency in MS Office programmes (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
