AECOM is at the forefront of helping energy industry clients to shift to low carbon and renewable sources whilst meeting increasing demand. We provide a full suite of energy consenting services, including off/on-shore renewables (including large scale solar), power transmission and distribution, battery storage, power generation with carbon capture and storage, hydrogen and nuclear new build and nuclear decontamination projects. We work across energy markets for major clients, including SSE, BP, National Grid, Harbour Energy.
We are seeking to recruit an Energy Planning, Consenting and Development Lead. To fill this role you will be passionate about consenting and transforming our energy systems and helping the UK to deliver its net zero ambitions. This is a great opportunity to lead the development of our energy consenting business, building on our strong position in the energy market, working on some of the most exciting and challenging emerging energy projects using your client contacts, leadership, consulting and technical skills. Your advice will span all project lifecycles, from early consenting strategy development, through feasibility and outline design, consent application, discharging of conditions, construction and scheme operation/ maintenance.
The location for this role is flexible, but ideally based in one of our main offices in London (Aldgate), Basingstoke, Bristol, Birmingham, Chesterfield, Croydon, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Plymouth or St Albans. However, do get in touch if this does not work for you because, for the right candidate, we’ll explore other options.
The role:
This role requires you to work across our energy business (engineering, planning, environment) to develop client relationships and identify project opportunities, leading teams to bid for and deliver projects, raising our profile through marketing and publicity. You will already have considerable knowledge of energy consenting legislation, including Development Consent Orders (DCOs), TCPA, the Electricity Act and statutory powers. This key leadership role will require the following:
- Growing our market share across our energy business by identifying and leading the successful pursuit of prospects and the delivery of projects.
- Leading the delivery of projects in terms of client interface, providing strategic direction to the team, taking responsibility for successful project completion.
- Engaging with existing and potential clients, positioning AECOM to ensure there is a strong pipeline of repeat work and identifying new work opportunities.
- Interfacing with multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure client/project opportunities are maximised and the integrated delivery of projects.
Skills and knowledge:
To undertake this role you will already have a proven track record of developing client relationships, winning and successfully delivering energy projects. You will have the following knowledge, skills and attributes:
- Recognised industry expertise in energy planning and consenting.
- Established client relationships and experience of the successful pursuit of prospects and delivery of projects.
- Strong proven consultancy skills and an ability to work closely with energy clients to define and then implement appropriate consenting strategies.
- Experience of working across different consenting regimes (e.g. DCOs, TCPA etc.).
- Experience of working with clients to understand their requirements, define solutions and appropriate design parameters for assessment.
- Experience of developing and implementing business strategies and client development plans in order to ensure that bidding opportunities are maximized.
- Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams in the bidding and delivery of projects, including technical specialists.
- Experience of working within a commercial environment (bids and projects), including client liaison, programme and time management, quality assurance and financial/budget control.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to work on multiple projects/business initiatives at any one time.
- Critical thinker and strong analytical skills with a solutions focused mindset to resolve complex issues.
- A degree in a relevant environmental discipline and an appropriate professional membership.
- Chartered or CEnv qualification advantageous.
