We have an exciting opportunity to join our HR Employee Relations team as an Employee Relations Consultant on a 6 month fixed term contract/ secondment. The overall purpose of this job is to provide expert advice, guidance, coaching and support to managers with all employment relations cases. You'll ensure managers build capability and confidence to take responsibility for their own cases, whilst pro-actively identifying employee relations issues and trends within AXA and taking appropriate steps to address these. As this role is to cover a short term need in the team, the ability to hit the ground running is essential.

What you'll be doing:

  • Provide expert advice, guidance, support and coaching to managers and HRBPs to resolve employee relations cases pragmatically and in line with the requirements of the business area, engaging relevant stakeholders within HR and the business as appropriate
  • Manage cases through to a conclusion where litigation proceedings may or have commenced by working with relevant internal (business, HR & Group Legal) and external (ACAS, Employment Law Team) stakeholders to ensure a commercially focused resolution is achieved
  • Develop line manager and HR capability to improve the management of employee relations issues through consultancy, coaching and learning interventions on key risk areas
  • Use data to drive decisions and produce, analyse and communicate MI where key trends and risks to the business are identified. Work with HRBPs to recommend and implement solutions to address issues identified, where requested and agreed
  • Review existing employee policies, procedures and practices, consulting with key business, HR and legal advisers to make recommendations and implement changes to ensure ER policy supports the achievement of business strategy
  • Provide technical expertise to managers and HRBPs to support the business including TUPE transfers, reorganisation, restructures, harmonisation and Group HR initiatives as required

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Expert technical ER knowledge of current employment and case law and the ability to apply AXA policy, practice and procedure pragmatically to manage risk effectively
  • Demonstrable experience within the employee relations field, either through a technical ER background or through generalist HR advisory work with line managers
  • Ability to proactively manage litigation, agreeing strategies and negotiating with external parties
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills, including the ability to actively listen, question and probe for information, challenge and influence thoughts and actions of managers and employees to negotiate resolution to cases
  • The ability to provide coaching and feedback to managers in a constructive manner, enabling them to demonstrate continuous improvement in terms of their capability and confidence with case work
  • Good written communication skills, including the ability to document interactions and correspondence with accuracy and sensitivity
  • Experience building trusted customer relationships and delivering service that exceeds and shapes customers expectations
