An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Emergency Department Assistant to join our motivated and dedicated team here at the Royal United Hospital Emergency Department in Bath.

Hear from our team about what it is like to work in our ED by clicking the link to the right of this advert, titled, 'Hear from our ED team at the RUH' The successful candidate will undertake portering, technical and general support duties for the Emergency Department of a routine or non-routine nature to meet the demands of a busy department providing a 24-hour service. You must be able to demonstrate that you have excellent people skills and that you are able to work under pressure. The successful candidates will cover shifts over a 24 hour period.

Approximately 75,000 patients a year attend the Emergency Department, with average daily attendances of 210 attendees and approximately 70 admissions into the Hospital via the Emergency admission system. The successful candidate will receive education and training in how to assist in the safe transfer of patients throughout the hospital as well as how to help with the smooth running of the department.

1.1 Respond promptly and courteously to all requests from the sister/ charge nurse, or from another member of staff in the Emergency Department.

1.2 Liaise regularly with the operational leaders to ensure the delivery of an efficient, high quality service

1.3 Escort patients and visitors to and from the Emergency Department.

1.4 Move patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley, including movement of the deceased.

1.5 Maintain privacy and dignity of the patient during escort/ transfer.

1.6 To communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, relatives and carers and member of the public.

1.7 To actively promote the Trust values.

1.8 Collect and deliver stores, drugs, medical records, medical gases, beds, equipment, department- based furniture, bloods and specimens as well as other ad- hoc requests

1.9. Carry a pager, operate telephones and respond to emergency alerts including helicopter arrival.

1.10 Assist qualified staff to move patients from/to trolley/bed/ wheelchair using appropriate safe techniques (e.g. log roll)
