Location: Avignon, France or Haddenham / Peterborough, England
Reporting to the Food safety Center of Expertise, the Regional industrial Microbiologist is accountable for the development, implementation and governance of Food Safety initiatives related to microbiology spanning manufacturing, product development, and laboratory proficiency. This individual implements strategic solutions for the maintenance, improvement and evolution of key microbiology-based programs in the EMEA region in line with industry-best practices and regulation. The regional industrial microbiologist is a key business partner for our regional manufacturing sites, supplier quality, R&D and commercialisation function to deliver our roadmap.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning and Microbiological Food Safety Leadership – Consult, develop, implement, monitor and continuously improve standards regarding the microbiological safety of our raw materials and finished goods and manufacturing practices (i.e. validation study design and review, challenge study design, product formulation and processing guidance, material deviation assessment)
In alignment with global standards, regional standards, and business priorities, this individual defines processes and standards for microbiology-based food safety programs and is responsible for interpreting standards/requirements and creating a strategy to deliver consistent execution.
Global & regional collaboration - Represents the global CoE in the EMEA region & support the region on microbiology-related topics and manufacturing / product development projects so to deliver quality by design & right first-time approach in execution and projects
Assesses and supports consistent execution at site of regional programs for environmental monitoring, sanitary design, and hygienic zoning standards, collaborating with Sanitation and Quality Systems SMEs where appropriate
Incident Management and Prevention – Responsibility for troubleshooting and consultation through risk assessment for escalated microbial issues in manufacturing, warehousing, microbiology labs, PD, suppliers, co-manufacturers and customers.
Deliver Improvements and Track Performance – Establishes processes that identify organizational microbial risks and selects solutions. Demonstrates ownership for implementation and adoption of new ideas to deliver processes that sustain business results.
Deliver training / coaching to support cross functional teams – Acts as an ambassador of Quality and Food Safety while empowering others to commit to a quality and food safety first mindset in all functions and decisions. Identify needs and trains cross-functional organization on global / regional standards along relevant learning sharing program from industry / trade horizon scanning related to microbiology risk and controls.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Technical degree in relevant discipline, Bachelor’s or higher degree in Microbiology. 7+ years relevant experience Experience especially in manufacturing facility or manufacturing support & product development support. Ideally in condiment activity Technically proficient in food microbiology Advanced HACCP, Thermal Process and auditing proficiency through training or certification Strong leadership and communication skills to operate in a multi-cultural environment. Good project management skills along capacity to handle complex situation. Ability to assess and manage risk along communicating risks to functional and cross-functional stakeholders (inclusive of non-technical) Language: English required
