Job description
Email Marketing Specialist
Days Full time
Location London (Farringdon) (hybrid)
The Company
Usborne is an independent, family business, creating books which spark curiosity in children of all ages. These range from books for babies such as the bestselling That’s not my… series, to YA fiction from acclaimed authors such as Holly Bourne and Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé – with everything from Magic Painting to Politics for Beginners in between.
Whilst Usborne is now a market-leader in children’s publishing and one of the best-known brands in children’s books, the company retains a friendly, family feel. If you want to work somewhere close-knit enough for people to know your name, but which has a first-class reputation around the world, Usborne is the place for you.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced email marketing specialist to sit within our digital team, who can help take Usborne, to the next level of engagement and loyalty. The role will support both Usborne’s publishing operation based in London, as well as Usborne Community Partnerships, based in Oxfordshire.
Usborne Community Partnerships support our Independent Usborne Partners in building successful home-based businesses selling Usborne books in homes, schools, online and via social media throughout the UK and Europe.
The majority of your time will be spent on email marketing, working at a senior level to develop Usborne’s email marketing strategy and build our global audience, including:
- Taking responsibility for existing content-driven email campaigns and triggered emails including development of new email types (content series, email flows), customer/partner journeys, increasing our use of segmentation and dynamic content;
- Coordinating the email content calendar, working with marketing teams to identify priority titles and compelling themes;
- Managing our email tool Klaviyo;
- Following brand guidelines, living our strong brand values and being able to adopt our brand tone of voice.
In addition you will spend a good portion of time on analytics to understand the performance of our marketing across websites, email and social media. Through analysis of landing pages, email traffic, specific campaigns and business areas, you will be able to provide actionable insights in order to help us meet our business goals.
Experience
We are looking for an experienced and creative email marketer with a passion for children’s books who can create engaging content which appeals to our audience (parents, teachers, teens, and Independent Usborne Partners).
- A minimum of 5 years marketing experience working with consumer-facing brands, with a strong focus on email;
- Strong technical email marketing experience, including creation and management of complex flows, triggered campaigns and lists/ segments;
- Good knowledge and understanding of GDPR and the legal basis of email marketing;
- Good understanding of audience growth strategies;
- Excellent web analytics and data analysis abilities with a deep understanding of Google Analytics, UTM tagging and Excel (including pivot tables);
- Demonstrated track record of driving audience growth and engagement in current role;
- Ability to create short and punchy copy for web and email (must have strong grammar and copy-editing skills);
- A well-organised planner with great collaboration and teamwork skills;
- Good knowledge of Canva, Photoshop or other image editing software is a plus;
- Applicants with a marketing agency background or internal company roles which require a similar level of deep knowledge are particularly welcomed.
