The Johnson Controls R&D Centre in Sunbury, Surrey, UK, is a world leader in the design of electronic products for commercial fire detection systems.
What you will do
You will be working in the Electronics Laboratory of the Research & Development Centre, supporting the Engineering teams that specialize in the design and development of automatic fire detection products for the protection of people and buildings.
Electronic, electrical and mechanical hardware assembly
Building and testing prototypes (analogue and digital electronic assemblies), under supervision by Electronic Engineers
Testing and calibration of devices used by our Production facilities and Field Support Engineers around the world
Maintenance of laboratory equipment
Liaising with suppliers and service providers
Occasional visits to the Test Houses that provide the testing and approval of our safety products
What we look for
Practical skills: soldering, mechanical assembly, and the use of oscilloscopes, multi-meters, laboratory equipment, hand tools, power tools
Knowledge of electronic components: resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, op-amps, etc. and circuit diagrams
Experience in PCB assembly, including surface mount components
Experience in system assembly including prototype wiring, testing & fault finding, under supervision by Electronic Engineers
Interpersonal skills to operate in a team
Good communicator, both verbally and in writing
Motivated, adaptable and willing to learn new techniques
Basic computer literacy
OND or equivalent (in Electronics, Electrical or similar) or experience in a similar role.
