As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Electronic Medical Records Technician is responsible for the electronic and paper medical record management within Marin Community Clinics. The Electronic Medical Records Technician provides timely and accurate medical record services and safeguards our patient’s records in compliance with our Company policy and HIPAA regulations. Our mission to promote health and wellness through excellent, compassionate care for all guides our work every day. The position will perform the following tasks within the clinics and/or central Health Information Systems Management location.
Responsibilities:
All employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including "health-care" required boosters as a condition of employment, subject to limited exemptions. New employees are required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and boosted before the first day of employment. If you completed your primary series, received an original booster and it has been more than 2 months from that booster dose - it is recommended, but not required that you receive the Bivalent booster.

Responsibilities:
- Successfully interacts and communicates with clinical staff to assist with deficient and delinquent medical record completion.
- Respond to requests and releases patient information to persons or agencies in strict accordance with Company policy and HIPAA regulations.
- Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
- Ensures only appropriate information is faxed to outside medical facilities.
- Retrieve paper and electronic faxes to be filtered and distributed or scanned as necessary.
- Provides quality medical record services effectively and efficiently.
- Actively supports a teamwork environment that fosters quality and productivity.
- Works collaboratively with other departments.
- Scans records into patient charts, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of information (ex. all pages of documents are in order and available.)
- Locates and extracts pertinent information from medical files.
- Merge duplicate patient records.
- Process tasks received via inbox from Nurses, MA’s, and Physicians.
- Perform Care Team Responsibilities as outlined in the Care Team Patient Center Medical Home Procedures.
- Assist in pre-visit prep for patients which may include, but is not limited to, printing hospital records.
- Contributes as part of the team ensuring all departmental tasks are done and completes other projects assigned by supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
- Past work experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Past work experience in an office environment preferred.
- Previous experience with the Electronic Health Records (EPIC) preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
- Strong and accurate data entry skills.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to work in fast pace medical environment.
- Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.
- High level of initiative and ability to follow through on assignments.
- Must be able to work well independently and/or in groups.
- Ability to recognize problems, offer solutions and seek help when necessary.
- Follow verbal and written instructions and carry out directions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify errors and correct them.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Use of mouse, keyboard and headset.
- Moderate to loud noise and intermittent interruptions.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
