Job description
Immediate Opening: Electrochemist
The Role:
We are currently looking for a Electrochemist with a strong background in electrochemistry and corrosion who can apply these skills in a fast-paced commercial setting.
The role will include developing analytical methods, scaling up the coating technology and working with customers to implement the process into manufacturing facilities. You will have an opportunity to develop cutting edge catalytic technology which will revolutionise hydrogen supply world-wide.
The Company:
Oxford nanoSystems has spent ten years developing nanoFLUX®, a ground-breaking coating technology, which has demonstrated substantial enhancements in heat transfer capabilities.
Recent improvements have led to new research towards alkaline electrolyser catalysts. The coating can also be implemented onto existing cathode designs and significantly increase the efficiency reducing the energy demand and bringing down the levelised cost of Hydrogen.
In Aug 2021 the UK government released its Hydrogen Strategy showing a need to increase hydrogen production to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. Green hydrogen produced using electrolysers coupled to renewable energy systems will be a significant part of this economy and OnS is looking to be at the forefront of catalytic deployment.
We are looking for talented, motivated and self-directed people to join our informal, fast paced team.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate has a postgraduate background in Electrochemistry, but relevant industrial experience will also be considered. They should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team of scientists, engineers, and commercial people.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of methods for analysing electrochemical processes.
- Designing electrochemical procedures and experiments to provide thorough evaluations of developmental products.
- Independently carrying out projects as requested by the Company
- Working closely with the company’s technical staff in identifying and exploring opportunities to innovate catalytic development using a range of materials.
- Leverage experiences and technical ‘know-how,’ skills, and techniques from external sources.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Experience in corrosion analysis
- Experience of surface analysis techniques such as SEM, EDX, XPS, XRD.
- Electro-analytical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry, EIS, chronoamperometry, etc.
- Ability to conduct thorough research and document findings in well-organised manner quickly and efficiently.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience within a manufacturing environment, where there is a requirement to understand the technical process.
- Practical experience in electroplating industry
- Experience in the electroplating and pulse plating
- Basic knowledge of acidic and alkaline electrolysers.
What we offer:
- Salary £35-42k commensurate with experience
- 25 days holiday
