Digital Manufacturing, based near Coventry, is a fast-paced internal start-up within DHL Supply Chain, which operates a robotics-as-a-service business model, providing on-demand robots performing tasks not appropriate for people. The DM team design, build, install and maintain bespoke and market sourced robotic solutions across the global supply chain business. Digital Manufacturing engineers are working to combine three emerging and disruptive technologies in their pursuit of a new way of working; Collaborative robotics, 3D printing and the industrial internet of things to build a fleet of robot workers for the logistics industry.
What will the role involve?
During your Apprenticeship, a world of possibilities awaits, with the opportunity to learn new knowledge, skills and behaviours to become an occupationally competent engineer. As part of your daily duties, allowing the Operation to continue working to full capacity, meeting the needs of all customers, you will undertake the following:
- Designing components
- 3D printing parts / fabricating parts
- Assembling machine
- Programming robots
- Site maintenance, Workshop Maintenance & Housekeeping
What qualification will you achieve?
During the 60 month apprenticeship you will study at the University of Warwick, working towards achieving The Electro-mechanical Engineering Degree Level 6 Apprenticeship a Degree in BEng, completing the below :
- Mathematics: the mathematical techniques and methods required to model mechanical and electrical systems: algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, statistics.
- Engineering design: the creative design process including defining the problem, creating ideas and testing the solution using tools to underpin the process
- Systems design: the system lifecycle from concept to disposal; requirements validation and verification; architecture definition, sub-system design and testing; integration; design for supportability/maintainability; functional safety, cyber vulnerability and secure data handling. Back to Duty
- Mechanics: the fundamental laws of static and dynamic classical mechanics and their application to mechanical systems.
- Structures: analysis and modelling .
Required entry qualifications
- AAA from three A Levels to include Mathematics and Physics
- DDD in the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in an engineering discipline to include the two Mathematics units, 'Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems' and 'Further Engineering Mathematics'
- GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C/4

- Have the ability to travel to site and hold a full UK driving license at time of start date
