Job Description
The AECOM Nuclear Team, provide multi-disciplinary consultancy to the nuclear industry in both the nuclear new build and decommissioning sectors. In the new build sector, we are providing engineering support to the Developers of the UK’s fleet of new nuclear power stations. In the Decommissioning Sector, which requires considerable new build to enable decommissioning, AECOM provides support to the entire Nuclear Estate, including:
+ Multidisciplinary design support to Civil Nuclear projects.
+ Multidisciplinary design support to Defense projects.
+ Design and development of waste storage and disposal facilities.
+ Project Management and Supervision.
+ Technical governance and Intelligent Customer (IC) roles.
An example project is MILWEP, Magnox, Hinkley – Berkeley – Chapelcross. The Modular Intermediate Level Waste Encapsulation Plant formally known as MILWEP forms a major part of Magnox’s waste management strategy to safely and cost-effectively treat their legacy intermediate level waste by processing and packaging the low-level nuclear waste into 3m3 Boxes. This process will be carried out in a MILWEP facility constructed at the three separate nuclear reactor sites located across the UK.
AECOM provided a multi-discipline design team of EC&I, Process, Architectural, Civil and Structural, Process, HVAC and Building Services Engineers to deliver a design solution. The modular plant design solutions are intended to be used at a number of Magnox nuclear reactor facilities. For the concept design phase, a generic plant solution was developed which encompassed all of the key requirements, features and modules for a plant. For detailed design, this solution was then tailored to each of the three sites to accommodate their individual characteristics.
Typical job responsibilities for the successful candidate will include:
+ Working as part of the AECOM Nuclear team from our Westlakes & Warrington offices
+ Assisting with engineering calculations
+ Producing engineering AutoCAD drawings
+ Setting up and operating equipment
+ Inspecting equipment and engineering installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining project documentation
+ Structural inspections and reporting
+ Providing basic support in the areas of project controls, scheduling, scheduling analysis, earned value management, and construction inspection activities in support of projects.
Qualifications
No experience is necessary. This position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE or A-Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:
+ Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Mathematics & English
+ Three A-Levels (or equivalent) including Maths and a physical science at grade 'C' or above - essential for Degree Apprenticeship
+ Able to meet requirements for baseline security clearance in the UK
+ Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software
+ Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Nuclear/Electrical Engineering
+ Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
+ Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic
+ Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
+ Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects
+ English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
+ Able to carry out occasional remote working
