Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview
At Centrica Business Solutions (CBS) we provide integrated energy solutions that deliver cost efficiency, resilience and accelerate our customers’ journeys to a low carbon future. In Centrica Energy Assets (CEA) within CBS we are building a 1GW portfolio of flexible energy generation assets including solar, battery and hydrogen ready peaking plants to help drive the transition to Net Zero.
Reporting to the Head of Development & Engineering, you will hold responsibility for the Electrical Engineering and Design of a number of projects at any one time. Projects will be located across different geographies and will vary in technologies (with a primary focus on gas peaking plants, solar and battery projects).
You will support projects in all stages, from development though to operation and will work as an integral part of project teams and site construction teams, interfacing with partners, sub-contractors and other internal functions to ensure Centrica Energy Asset’s (CEA’s) requirements are met.
The Role
You will provide management and technical leadership to support project acquisition, development, conceptual design, front end engineering design, construction and commissioning for a range of energy related projects. As the electrical engineering expert you will prepare and advise on electrical specifications and input to the setup, review, drafting and negotiation of third-party contracts for electrical works. You'll identify and manage framework agreements with Electrical Engineering Consultants
Spanning multiple projects you will input to risk, HAZOP, change management and technical reviews. In addition you will prepare electrical grid applications, liaising with DNO’s, review connection offers and manage the delivery of relevant grid studies. You'll lead on technical due diligence for potential acquisitions and opportunities and most importantly have responsibility for driving an incident free environment on and off site and promoting a positive safety culture within the organisation.
Lastly, you will be responsible for developing, reviewing and maintaining Centrica Energy Asset’s Electrical Engineering specifications and standards to ensure compliance, consistency and lifetime value across the asset portfolio.
The Person
You are ideally a chartered electrical engineer with detailed knowledge of Principles and Procedures on HV, MV, LV, Protection Systems, Switchgear, MCC’s, Distribution Systems and electrical equipment.
You also know your stuff when it comes to Grid Code requirements and have an understanding of construction and/or design of Power Generation Projects. Having a willingness to support continuous business improvement and a self-led approach to personal development is essential.
Understanding of procurement, supply chain management and conditions of contract will help you with this role and having a background in electrical engineering design / construction.
Collaboration and stakeholder management skills are also needed.
