The Opportunity
Working for the site HSE Manager for Edinburgh, providing Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) advice and support to the site stakeholders.
We are looking for a self-starter to join the established HSE Team in Edinburgh. You will be working as part of a small team in Edinburgh assessing the existing policies, processes, and systems of work to ensure that, Leonardo’s service meets the Customer’s needs, is in line with Leonardo’s policies and processes. The areas of the role include investigation and assessment as well as training, support services, and health, safety & environment. This role is also part of the wider HSE function across Leonardo Electronics UK (LEUK).
The job is very varied and a wide range of skills is expected. People skills and good communication are necessary. Working as support to the HSE Manager Edinburgh you will:
Support and guide on various HSE matters- Build relationships with key stakeholders across the sites, promoting the development of a positive culture and best practice
- Deliver continuous improvement in Health, Safety and Environmental standards and practices.
Key areas of activity and objectives
The successful candidate will be required to run and manage;
- The risk & COSHH assessment databases
- Safety data sheet listings
- Contractor and Visitor Inductions
- Internal HSE auditing on all three standards (ISO 45001, 14001, 50001)
- Balanced Scorecard (BSC) reporting
- HSE Representatives meetings preparation & minutes
- Update emergency preparedness arrangements & training
- Document reviews
- Energy monitoring & record keeping
- Waste monitoring & record keeping
- Ensure that the HSE notice board is kept up to date.
- Lead on HSE projects as assigned by the HSE Manager.
- Carry out regular site safety inspections
- Occasional involvement in LEUK wide projects
- Performance Management and Reporting
- Ensure the monthly BSC internal HSE reporting is undertaken in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collect energy, waste, packaging, travel data throughout the year in preparation for the annual Service Now report.
- Ensure that the HSE Representatives meetings are run correctly, with risk assessment and workplace inspection reports coming in from the Reps, and information on accidents/incidents and any legislation changes included in the meetings.
- Follow the audit schedule as defined by the HSE Systems auditor.
3rd Parties - Liaise with regulators and accreditation bodies when required, this will be mainly companies providing specialist air and water monitoring, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, the local Fire Brigade, local Council and external auditors
What you will do
- Incident Reporting
- Working as part of the HSE team, the candidate will be required to conduct incident investigations. The incident investigation enquires are required by company policies and in accordance with company guidance and timescales. The outcomes must be recorded and published and corrective actions followed up in Sphera.
- HSE Representatives Management
- Lead and coach the HSE Representatives, this will range from delivering the initial training, through to continued help during their early days as a HSE Representative and developing their risk assessment and workplace assessment skills.
- Environment & Sustainability
- Work with the site leads and the Facilities team and LEUK Environmental & Reporting Manager as appropriate to co-ordinate waste minimisation. Guidance will come from the Leonardo Group Services and the Facilities Management Contractor.
- Support the monitoring and audit of energy usage and efficiency. Recognise energy saving opportunities and implement where possible.
What we are looking for
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Must be able to achieve SC security level clearance- Proven track record of delivering HSE improvements
- Knowledge of ISO Management System ISO 14001,45001 and 50001
- Experience of running/auditing HSE management systems
- Understanding of safety culture development.
- NEBOSH General as a minimum, ideally working towards NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ level 6
- Self-starter/able to work on own initiative
- Good at working with people at all levels
- Computer literate, with good understanding of MS Office packages
- Good analytical skills
- Resilience, ability to work under pressure

- Good presentation skills
- Willingness to travel and work at other sites
- Experience of Business Continuity planning
Context/Environment
- HSE support to Edinburgh site and occasional support to the Newcastle office
